BTB Advertiser and Friends of the Blog The Tin Theater’s FREE monthly Wine Tasting Event will be this Thursday, Jan. 19, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Wine Tastings are a regular feature at the Tin Theater, and are held the third Thursday of every month.

The Tin Theater is located at 923 SW 152nd Street, just west of the Tin Room Bar.

Here’s what will be uncorked:

GRUET BRUT NV
Made in New Mexico the wine is crisp and full-bodied, which has developed rich complexity and a fine mousse. The allure of toasty finish from 24 months on triage is a compliment the sophisticated green apple and citrus like fruit flavors. A truly fine value, and yes, it is from New Mexico. $14

CHARLES SMITH VINO PINOT GRIGIO 2010
100% Pinot Grigio from the Evergreen vineyard. The wine is fermented and aged in 100% stainless steel. This wine shimmers, glistening pale straw nectar. Terroir driven. Think mineral and stone. Bosc pear , Washington apple, orange zest and honeysuckle.

An excellent northwest take on an Italian classic. $10

CHARLES AND CHARLES 2010 RED BLEND
This wine is a collaboration between Charles Smith of K Vintners and Charles Bieler of Three Thieves. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Syrah, the wine is dark, almost black, with a brooding nose of blackberry, cranberry, tobacco and sweet oak.

The fruit carries through the palate where you find great texture, soft tannins and a long finish.

The Cabernet was raised in French oak while the Syrah was fermented and aged in stainless steel. $9

CHARLES SMITH 2009 CHATEAU SMITH CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Made from 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot and 6% Syrah. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in French oak before bottling. Savory and supple. Flavors of cassis, dark berries and pipe tobacco coat the palate for a long and satisfying finish. $16

ALLEGRINI PALAZZO DELLA TORRE 2008
From the Veneto region of Italy this wine is a blend of 70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella and 5% Sangiovese. A smooth, full-bodied cru made in an innovative ripasso style.

After harvest the grapes from the Palazzo Della Torre vineyard follow 2 different paths:

70% of the grapes are vinified immediately and the remaining 30% are left to dry until the end of December. Then the fresh wine made at harvest is blended with the fermenting juice

from the dried grapes initiating a second fermentation and rendering a more highly concentrated and complex wine. The winery affectionately refers to the wine as “baby Amarone.”

Deep ruby in color, brimming with notes of dark, dried cherries, blackberries and hints of

Dates and mocha. $19

SEE YOU THIS THURSDAY!

BTB Advertiser and Friends of the Blog The Tin Theater FREE monthly Wine Tasting Event will be this Thursday, Nov. 17th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Wine Tastings are a regular feature at the Tin Theater, and are held the third Thursday of every month.

The Tin Theater is located at 923 SW 152nd Street, just west of the Tin Room Bar.

“Thanksgiving is America’s chow down feast, the one occasion each year when gluttony becomes a patriotic duty.”?Michael Dresser??The question is, what wines will you serve to accompany your Thanksgiving meal to truly make it a glorious occasion???Join us for our monthly free wine tasting, this Thursday from 5 to 7pm in our new wine cellar!??Here are the Thanksgiving wines that we will be tasting:

VEGA MEDIEN CAVA ROSE
This Cava comes from old Grenache grapes grown in the higher hills of Requena (Valencia). In our cellar we are recovering this variety to produce our rose sparkling wine. Bright red Cava with red currant tonalities, fine bubble and persistent foam. Intense strawberry fragrance with yogurt notes. Creamy texture, crisp and balance acidity.

RIVER’S EDGE GEWURTZTRAMINER
This vintage was a great one for gewurz which produced intensely flavored fruit. The wine was fermented and aged in small stainless steel barrels, and bottled early to retain all of it’s freshness and zest. The wine contains 2.5% residual sugar. The wine has a delightful ripe apple aroma along with a honeyed flavor. This wine tends to have the aromatic gusto and spicy pallet appeal that give it a solid standing with turkey and gravy, bringing out the best in both. This Gewurtztraminer offers a delicious wine option for Thanksgiving day.

FREJA PINOT NOIR WILLAMETE VALLEY
State produced Willamette Valley Pinot Noir at this price? You’ve got to be kidding!Snap it up while you can. This classically Burgundian wine, from a small, family-owned producer, has balanced acidity, moderate tannins, and an earthy bouquet, with hints of pepper and spice on the palate. This is an excellent choice for Thanksgiving. Why? This wine is food-friendly, with soft tannins and a fresh burst of tart acidity that helps to cut through rich dishes.

RAMSAY PETITE SIRAH
North Coast Vineyard: Bellestra.Grape Source: Green Valley. This wine is luscious, juicy and full of life. It is the perfect food wine. Pair it with something substantial.Petite Sirah grapes are one of the prettiest fruits to look at; the clusters are big and the grapes are big, and the flavor is big.

OBELISCO RED BORDEAUX BLEND
Region: Red Mountain, WA. 91PTS WE. Deep purple garnet color. Interesting aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry fruits, clove and mincemeat spice, peppered sausage then beautiful sweet vanilla toast. On the palate this wine is full bodied with char, toast a bit of astringency and a hint of sweetness and tartness, followed by pepper, black cherry and blackberry. Lots going on here; a complex blend of “Old World” and “New World” character!

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?
We are showing all Husky, Seahawk and Monday Night Football games in our theater on the big screen. Come cheer on your favorite teams and enjoy our food and drink specials during the game!

Here are the tasty details:

WHAT: FREE WINE TASTING!

WHEN: Thursday, June 16th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

WHERE: The Tin Theater, located at 923 SW 152nd in Olde Burien.

INFO: Recently named the #2 Best Indie Theater in KING5?s “Best of Western Washington” poll (read our coverage of that here).

“This month we are featuring wines from Portugal. We will be tasting four delicious wines, aTawny Port and to be unique, an Olive Oil from Portugal. First tasting will be a 2008 Monte Velho White. Intense, elegant and well balanced. Next will be a 2008 Esporao Reserva White. Complex and elegant with a good persistence. Our third tasting will be the Alandra Red. Brilliant ruby color with a clean and young aroma of ripe red fruit. Next we will feature the Esporao “Alentejo” Alicante Bouschet from 2005. Sweet, creamy nose is quite intense with lovely vivid raspberry and plum fruit. Nice definition and spicy edge. Finally, our special pour of the night will be the Esporao Private Selection Red 2005. It’s bright, mouthwatering with a very succulent finish. We are also tasting the Port Tawny and a rich Olive Oil from Portugal.”

New BTB Advertiser Decanter Wines want our Readers to know they they will be holding a special wine tasting starting at 4pm on Saturday, May 14th, featuring Washington State’s own Coyote Canyon Winery.

“Washington States own Coyote Canyon Winery will be at Decanter Wines pouring some of their best wines on Saturday May 14th,” said Matt Grim. “They will be tasting two reds and two whites.”

As we reported April 13th:

The idea of Decanter Wines comes from the owner/partners, the Grim family of Burien. Mom, Mary and dad Larry were joined by son Matt and daughter Diane in the creation of this wine store. They’ve been in the online line wine sales business for some time with Washington Wines Online. Many of their customers didn’t want to pay shipping charges, so Decanter Wines was born. Now they’ve not only got a place to pick up their wine, but enjoy a nice salad or, some Mediterranean appetizers, salads, soups and even hot sandwiches and desserts while they collect their wine purchases.

So if you’re out doing your Trader Joe’s or Albertson’s (food shopping) thing, and want to sample some of Western Washington’s Finest wines or want to stop for a taste of their new menu, stop over to Decanter Wine and enjoy the hospitality of the Grim family.

Decanter Wines is located at 15830 1st Ave South, in the space formerly occupied by Party City, next to the Verizon store; phone (206) 243-8751.

West; Directed By Alan Wilkie: Starring Eric Hartley, Adrienne Grieco, David Roby, Amber Rack, Doug Knoop, Stephen R. Scheide, Erika Zabelle and Nancy Warren. Written by T.M. Sell. Music by Nancy Warren.

In my time as a critic, it seems certain patterns have emerged more distinctly than others. So when I was commissioned to see West at Breeders Theater I decided to follow my usual pattern of not researching the play before I saw it. So far, this pattern has led to many pleasant surprises but I think West may be among the most pleasant of the bunch. Right off the success of Casting Call, the cast and crew of Breeders Theater strikes gold again with a production that’s at once a throwback to classic Hollywood romance stories of the 30’s – 50’s and a new entry in the genre; except as a play.

The story follows the tale of two families, the Olsons and the Dokkens whose lives are more connected than they first seem. Olie Olson (Eric Hartley) is the head of a farming family, having immigrated to America at the height of homesteading with nothing but an extra shirt. Harald Dokken (Doug Knoop) is a banker, a steadfast man who believes in hard work and discipline. On one fateful day, Glenda Olson (Adrienne Grieco) and George Dokken (David Roby), meet. What at first seems like annoyance at first sight blossoms into something they never though possible. Throughout the course of the play we follow George and Glenda as they succeed and fail, struggle and sacrifice, all in a story that has as many laughs as it does genuine drama. This is a story that will warm your heart and tug at your heart strings, but most importantly, it’ll make you want to sing half as well as the actors do.

The most striking aspect of West is how well all of the individual parts combine into a whole; the wonderful music, the terrific performances, the stellar writing all combined to form something that is nostalgic but level headed, sentimental but grounded in reality. It’s crucial spiritual nourishment for the inner romantic in all of us and by the end, I guarantee you’ll want more. It’s not just that the characters are fully realized by great actors who obviously care about the audience. It’s not just that the music will have you stirring in your seat and humming the tunes the morning after. It’s not just that the writing has shades of some of the greatest romance stories of all time. It’s ultimately how all of these elements manage to be as great as you’d think and so much more. West gets my highest recommendation. If you’re looking for a romantic evening out at the theater or just feel like you could use a real love story and not the nonsense they’re peddling today try heading to a showing of West. You’ll love every minute of it.
