We usually borrow an 88 key electric piano from another theater, but they have a show up during our production of “Tommy” that needs their piano. We have been asking around to no avail.

Your readers have come through so many times for so many, including BLT when one of your readers let borrow a baby grand for “Christmas with the Crawfords.”  Hopefully they will come through for us again.

When Steph finds out, all hell breaks loose. Best friends Carly and Kent, who are struggling with their marriage, are there to take sides, provide support and light the match on the powder keg of their relationship. As both relationships crumble, the friends are forced to confront deceit, infidelity and betrayed trust in their journey to answer that oh-so-American question, “How much is ‘pretty’ worth?” Contains liberal but appropriate use of profanity.”

Performances will be at Burien Little Theatre from April 20 through May 13, 2012. Rehearsals begin in March.

Auditions are Tuesday, Dec. 13 from 7 to 10 p.m.  Callbacks are Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 7 to 10 p.m.

• Greg – Early to mid-20s. Average guy. Trying to figure out what he wants out of life.
• Steph – Early to mid-20s. Girl-next-door type. Not drop-dead gorgeous, not ugly, just a regular everyday girl.
• Kent – Early to mid-20s. A guy’s guy. Big into sports, hot girls. A good-looking guy and he knows it.
• Carly – Early to mid-20s. Hot girl with an incredible body and a self-righteous attitude.

Burien Little Theatre wants our Readers to know that, as a holiday gift to the audience, they will be hosting free radio-show-style staged readings of the popular family-friendly comedy “A Christmas Story,” written by Philip Grecian at 2 p.m. on two Saturdays – Dec. 3 and Dec. 10. 

“A Christmas Story” is based on humorist Jean Shepherd’s very funny memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s. The script is also based on the motion picture of the same name produced by Turner Entertainment Co. in 1983, distributed by Warner Brothers, and written by Jean Shepherd, Leigh Brown and Bob Clark.

The story follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case to his mother, his teacher and even the Santa Claus at Goldblatt’s Department Store. The consistent response:  ”You’ll shoot your eye out.” All of the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family’s temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie’s father winning a lamp shaped like a woman’s leg in a net stocking; Ralphie’s fantasy scenarios and more.

Audience members are encouraged to bringing nonperishable food items for the theater’s food drive. Donated food will go to a local food bank.

Our friends at Burien Little Theatre will be presenting the hilarious holiday comedy Inspecting Carol, written by Daniel J. Sullivan and the Seattle Repertory Theatre, opening Friday, Nov. 25th.

Almost broke, the pathetic Soapbox Theatre Company is having a dickens of a time mounting their annual cash cow, the holiday classic A Christmas Carol. Tiny Tim is a bit too old and big, the Ghost of Jacob Marley keeps getting his chains tangled in the scenery, and there’s an inspector from the National Endowment for the Arts expected any minute.

When an inept new actor is mistaken for the inspector, cast and crew cater to his every whim to try to win government funding. The result? The most hilarious and disastrous production of A Christmas Carol ever. Part Noises Off, part Waiting for Guffman, this show has been a sidesplitting holiday hit ever since it premiered at the Seattle Rep.

Inspecting Carol will be performed at Burien Little Theatre from opening night on Friday, Nov. 25 through Sunday, Dec. 18. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Burien Little Theatre is introducing a couple of new ticket deals with Inspecting Carol. Tickets will be priced 2-for-1 on Date Night on Saturday, Nov. 26. In addition, get $2 off tickets by bringing nonperishable food items for the theater’s food drive. Donated food will go to a local food bank. One $2 food donation discount is allowed per ticket.

Our friends at Burien Little Theatre announced Friday (Oct. 7) that they will be holding auditions for the rock opera “The Who’s Tommy,” written by Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff on this coming Monday, Oct. 10th and Tuesday Oct. 11th, from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Characters range in age from 4 through 55.

Synopsis:

The Who’s electrifying rock opera “Tommy” explores rebellion, finding yourself, and the perils of celebrity. Childhood trauma renders Tommy Walker deaf, mute and blind. He finds solace through his uncanny pinball prowess, becoming a pinball superstar and messianic hero. Featuring such legendary hits as “Pinball Wizard” and “See Me, Feel Me.” The show includes adult content.

Our friends at Burien Little Theatre want our monstrous Readers to know that they’ll be holding auditions for their upcoming production of “Frankenstein” on Monday, Aug. 1st and Tuesday, Aug. 2nd.

Characters range in age from mid 20s to late 50s/early 60s. Some actors will be playing multiple characters.

Performances will be held at Burien Little Theatre from Sept. 30 through Oct. 30, 2011.

Here’s the synopsis:

The thrilling horror story of a young scientist’s disastrous attempt at playing God. Appalled by the deformed monster he has created, Victor Frankenstein abandons his innocent, bewildered creation. Rejected in horror by everyone he meets, the creature becomes increasingly vengeful and bent on finding his creator–to make a ghastly bargain.

This will be BLT’s world premiere of “Frankenstein,” adapted by Roxanne Ray from the novel by Mary Shelley. This production will feature an original background score written by composer Allan Loucks, who composed for stage and film.

• Auditions are Monday, Aug. 1 and Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 7 to 10 p.m. Callbacks are Wednesday, Aug. 3 from 7 to 10 p.m. Rehearsals begin Aug. 13.
• Stage director is Steve Cooper.
• $100 stipend provided.
• Please prepare two contrasting short contemporary monologues (serious/comedy) totaling 3 minutes maximum. Bring resume and headshot. Callbacks will consist of cold readings from the script.

Character Descriptions:

• Creature — created by Victor Frankenstein. (This part is already cast)
• Victor — Victor Frankenstein, creator of the Creature. 20s/30s.
• Caroline – Caroline Beaufort Frankenstein, Victor’s mother, and Elizabeth’s adoptive caretaker. Married Alphonse two years after doing manual labor to support her ill father, who then died, and then being placed by Alphonse under the care of a relative. 40s.
• Alphonse — Alphonse Frankenstein, Victor’s father, and Elizabeth’s adoptive caretaker. 50s/60s.
• Elizabeth — Elizabeth Lavenza, orphan of a German mother and Milanese noble father; fostered by peasants; adopted by Victor’s parents, and thought of by Victor as his cousin, his “more than sister.” Early 20s.
• Madame Moritz — mother of Justine. 50s.
• Justine — Justine Moritz, servant to Elizabeth’s household; had been the favorite of her father’s four children, but ill-treated by her mother after her father’s death. Early 20’s.
• William — younger brother of Victor, pre-pubescent. Could be played by youthful-looking actor in his 20s.
• De Lacey _- blind, father of Felix and Agatha. 50s.
• Felix — son of De Lacey. Late 20s.
• Agatha — daughter of De Lacey. Early 20s.
• Safie — guest and paramour of Felix. Early 20s.
• Prosecutor — at Justine’s trial. 50s.
• Peasant woman — from whom Caroline adopts Elizabeth. 50s.
• Minister — who marries Victor and Elizabeth. 50s.

Burien’s Hi-Liners will be performing their version of “Willy Wonka Junior” the weekend of July 15-17, beginning Friday, July 15th and continuing with five shows total through Sunday night, July 17th at The Annex (14501 4th Ave SW).

“Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to life in this stage adaptation of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, which features the songs from the classic family film ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,’” reads a press release. “The memorable score features “The Candy Man”, “Pure Imagination”, “Oompa Loompa” and ”I Want it Now” by Academy® and Grammy® award winners Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, neatly fitted into a new script adapted under the auspices of the Dahl Estate. With a flexible cast size, featuring roles for children and a tour-de-force role in the title character.”

We’re big fans of the Hi-Liners, and find them to be a very talented, hard-working group of area youth, and we’re very thankful for the hard work they did performing at the recent Three Tree Point Fireworks Fund Donor Party!
