Through the end of February, online orders are eligible for 10% off the entire order in celebration of the Fireside opening – use coupon code FIRESIDE221 at checkout.
Here’s Jenn’s “artist statement” from her website:
My photography has been an on-and-off thing until this past year, when my life was uprooted and I was left to dig myself out of my own dirt. It’s taken on a life of its own, as I learn more and practice more it yields me better results. I’m hoping to fill out my skeletal portfolio with more than just scenic and personal-interest shots (my two tabby/torbie kitty sisters, Grynne and Bearrett, butterflies, flora, and light capture) with people and abstract/action shots… In short, something more than personal eye candy.
Here’s a sample of Jenn’s work:

We’re huge fans of Photography here at The B-Town Blog, and while we are only rarely able to achieve it, we always appreciate it, honor it, and encourage others to experience it.
I mean, have you ever really thought about Photography? How it’s almost a kind of magic that can capture a moment in time and turn it into beautiful art? And how cool it is that in this nascent digital age that more and more magical moments are being captured by more people than ever before?
Nah…neither did we.
But seriously, that’s why we’re promoting a show opening Friday night, Feb. 12th, at Vino Bello, featuring Jason Smith, a Seattle-based photographic printer. This guy’s done tons of work for other artists, much of which has been exhibited internationally, and now it’s his turn to display his own hand-processed and hand-printed true black-and-white images right here in Burien.
Here are the details:
WHAT: Jason Smith Photographic Exhibit.
WHEN: Open reception is Friday night, Feb. 12th from 6pm – 9pm.

Lance is a part-time musician and lifetime lover of all music, particularly jazz. He has been promoter of small concerts in the Burien area for several years and says:
“The Highline Vintage Jazz Festival will fill a void in the local festival scene.
To my knowledge, until now the Puget Sound area has not provided a showcase for multiple styles of early jazz in one event.
As Burien emerges as one of the new vital places for the arts in the region, we pay tribute to the people who moved here and grew the community during the Big Band era, and offer a faithful rendering of the music of their youth.”
Burien Arts is a local non-profit dedicated to enriching the community by providing engaging and innovative arts programming to the Highline region and beyond. Vitally active since 1965, Burien Arts maintains a crucial role in the artistic fabric of the community.

Just in Time for Valentine’s Day fun, and priced at an affordable $14 (for two!), Burien Little Theatre presents Arne Zaslove’s 1950’s Rock ‘n’ Roll musical romantic comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
Here’s more info from a press release:
This Valentine’s Day do something exciting for your sweetheart and take your honey to a matinee at the Burien Little Theatre for just $14. That’s right, Feb. 14, St. Valentine’s Day, is “Seven Dollar Sunday” at BLT! That means all tickets are just $7 on Feb. 14: Better live theater at a low low price. Add dinner after the show with The Mark Restaurant and Bar’s dinner and a show package, and you have a complete Valentine’s Day event for two for just $54. Valentine’s Day simply can’t get any sweeter. So get out your poodle skirt, find your rotary phone, call up your sweetheart and make a date for Feb. 14th. But hurry, Seven Dollar Sunday is always a sellout and when it falls on St. Valentine’s Day, tickets will be gone before you can eat a box of chocolates.
Directed by Burien Little Theatre’s own Maggie Larrick, this Midsummer will have you singing along with star-crossed lovers during this romantic comedy from Feb. 12 through Mar. 21.
“It’s the most approachable of Shakespeare’s shows,” said Larrick. “And the musical numbers in each scene really tell the story.”
The play is set in a 1950s gymnasium at Athens High School on graduation day 1957, and in a neighboring forest. A group of magical fairies intervene and meddle with the lives of two young copuples for whom “the course of true love never did run smooth.” Botched love spells, hilarious characters and 1950’s rock ‘n’ roll make this show a treat for young and old, those in love and those between love.
Midsummer opens February 12 and runs through March 21. Shows are Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm.

The American Night, The Doors Tribute band, is back to play the last show of the winter at Bison Creek this Saturday night (Jan. 9th) at 10pm.
Here’s some promo wordage courtesy the band’s MySpace page:
“The American Night, from Seattle Washington, takes the audience on an entertaining journey with the sound, theatrics, myth, and experience that were The Doors!
The music is performed by musicians who are passionate about The Doors legacy, with an authentic live feel, using original vintage instruments to recreate the unmistakable energy and rock theatre that was a live Doors performance!
As any true Doors fan will attest, the jazz inspired rhythms of John Densmore are a crucial piece to the The Doors sound — percussionist Brett Rudy delivers!
Last, and certainly not least, the part of Jim Morrison, the ‘Lizard King’, is recreated on the stage by Nate Christian, tugging and tormenting the audience into frenzy.
From classic songs Light My Fire and Break On Through to The End, The American Night presents a complete Doors tribute experience and wraps it in a bow of joy, horror, confusion, puzzlement, ecstasy, and rock theatre that was…THE DOORS!”
A must see performance at Bison Creek!”

Here are the full cruise details:
WHAT: Jazz Cruise Fundraiser for the 2010 Highline Vintage Jazz Festival on the historic Virginia V

WHERE: On board the Virginia V, which is docked at the Center for Wooden Boats at the foot of Terry Avenue, on the south end of Lake Union.

INFO: From a press release:
Make your plans now to join your friends Saturday, December 19th aboard the classic 1922 Steam-powered SS Virginia V, the only remaining vessel from the famous “Mosquito Fleet”, as hot jazz enthusiasts mingle with vintage ship lovers for a nostalgic evening of dance music, lots of scrumptious hors d’oeuvres and fine wine.
Burien Arts and the Virginia V Foundation have combined to present this two-hour cruise as a preview of the 2nd annual Highline Vintage Jazz Festival coming up in Burien on February 20th, 2010. The preview jazz cruise features the Dave Holo Quintet (Dave on cornet, Dave Loomis – trombone, Peter Kok – piano, Jeff Norwood – bass, Lance Haslund – guitar).
Board the beautifully decorated Virginia V at her moorage at the Center for Wooden Boats at the foot of Terry Avenue, south end of Lake Union. Then enjoy the music, dancing, food, wine and other holiday-lighted ships as we sail Lake Union and Lake Washington, all for only $49.00. Boarding begins at 8:00 pm, departure at 8:30 pm.
For tickets (only 100 tickets available) and additional information about the Virginia V Foundation, contact www.virginiav.org. or phone 206-624-9119.
Launching a fundraising effort for the S.S. Virginia V and Burien’s Highline Vintage Jazz Festival, the vintage ship will leave the dock for a two and ½ hour cruise amidst holiday decorated boats on Lake Union and Lake Washington. The ship will be fully heated! This is the first time the two notable non-profits have joined forces to present an event.
“Steamship Virginia V has been hit hard by the economic downturn,” says Steamer Virginia V Foundation General Manager Kim DuBois. “Partnering with another non-profit organization facing the same financial challenges we do just makes sense. Particularly in these tough economic times, we all need to support each other. That’s what building a quality community is all about.”
S.S. Virginia V provides a unique living history experience to the general public, to over 40 groups in education, health and wellness, parks, education, law enforcement, and over 300 Puget Sound school-aged children.
Marine training programs also introduce inner-city youth to careers in the maritime trades.
In addition to public access of the vessel, Virginia V Foundation has contributed over $50,000 in in-kind access to the vessel in the form of cruises, dockside events and educational programs. S.S. Virginia V offers educational history experiences unlike any other in the Puget Sound.
The 88-year-old Steamship Virginia V is the Puget Sound’s own National Historic Landmark treasure. At one time, she made 13 stops between Tacoma and Seattle carrying freight, fruit, wood, mail and people. During WW II, she even carried supplies and workers between Poulsbo and Keyport Naval Torpedo Station.
Mosquito Fleet routes in the Puget Sound from 1880 until about 1930 were brimming with ferryboats, freighters, schooners, sidewheelers and sternwheelers. They were named Mosquito Fleet because in their bustle, they resembled a swarm of mosquitoes. Now S.S. Virginia V is the last remaining operational steam vessel from this Fleet.
To pay tribute to S.S. Virginia V history, Highline Vintage Jazz Festival Preview, presented by Burien Arts, will feature jazz music from the heyday of the Mosquito Fleet.
In addition to managing a vibrant art gallery, Burien Arts also supports a summer performing arts series, manages an education annex which showcases the talent of local high school students, partners with other arts groups, civic organizations and the City of Burien to host innovative outdoor installations and community festivals, and much more.
So, come help support Seattle’s very own national treasure, the arts, education and culture while you dance, snack on scrumptious hors d’oeuvres and taste fine wine. What better way to spend the holidays than by giving support to your local community while you enjoy a cruise aboard the decks of this beautiful vintage ship?
More information on the Virginia V is at www.virginiav.org.

From their MySpace page:
Ang Pambansang Banda ng Pilipinas Parokya ni Edgar is a bunch of guys, six to be exact, who unexpectedly find themselves in a proper band, with a proper recording contract with a proper record company (Universal Records), which gives them a proper”recording career”. Parokya ni Edgar is Chito Miranda and Vinci Montaner on vocals, Darius Semaña and Gabriel CheeKee on guitars, Buhawi Meneses on bass and Dindin Moreno on drums. But beneath the silly gags and the punchlines, the Parokya Band has matured musically. Chief lyricist and frontman Chito Miranda once declared: “Nagti-trip lang talaga kami, eh.” But by jokester/slacker standards, this band is already an overachievers: six albums with an endless string of hit singles (including one that inspired a movie), loads of music awards, and a fan base that extends all the way from Aparri to Tawi-Tawi. What could be a greater feat than have the whole country chanting: “Hoy-hoy-hoy-hoy-hoy-hoy!”? Countless Gold and Platinum Record Sales Awards, MTV Awards and Awit Awards trophies later, PnE is showing no signs of slowing down with their latest release Halina Sa Parokya . Like any other Parokya album; comic skits, spoofs and heaps of classic Parokya humor abound in Halina Sa Parokya. The idea for their album artwork was inspired partly by the Department of Tourism thrust to promote various tourist destinations and local festivities via their Wow Philippines campaign (if you can recall the TV advertisement which featured Regine Velasquez). The album was also inspired by both the popular children’s TV show Sesame Street and its local counterpart Batibot . Taking aloook at the album cover alone, you will laugh at the colorful characters Chito, Buwi, Vinci, Gab, Darious and Dindin portray! And surely, too, it will be more obvious to tell why Parokya ni Edgar has been dubbed as “Pambansang Banda ng Pilipinas.”
Other blurbs:
The band is best known for its novel rock songs which are often satirically twisted covers of popular songs. The music band has since experimented with musical styles of one song with another substituting alternative rock for pop rock, rapcore for funk and so on, much to the comic relief of their audience. They called themselves “Skembergs” at first, when their band consisted of three local vocalists- Gabrielle”Gab” Ignatius Chee-Kee, Alfonso Miranda “Chito” aka, Jr, Francis Vincent Montaner “Vinci”, and two guitarists, Jerick and Miko. They would practice after-school to perfect their talents in music before playing at the Eraserheads concert. The Eraserheads concert success propelled them to add a bassist and a drummer – Buhawi Meneses and Dindin Moreno and also rename the band as Parokya ni Edgar. The guitarists Jerick and Miko left the band after high school to take up other career interests. This paved the way for guitarist Darius Semaña to join the band.
Parokya ni Edgar (English translation: Parish of Edgar) is a Filipino band that was formed in 1993 by a group of Ateneo de Manila High School students. The band is famous and most lauded for its original rock novelty songs and often satirical covers of famous songs. The band has since transcended musical genres, varying styles from one song to another – alternative rock to pop rock, funk to rapcore, and so on – while providing comic relief to their listeners.
The band soon started playing at the legendary local band hub, Club Dredd. Coming out during the height of the Pinoy rock explosion, with the Filipino rock community giving in to the influence of especially grunge acts such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, Parokya ni Edgar played like no other. Their jokes, silly antics, and outrageous performances paved the way to the popularity that they currently enjoy.
Eventually, the late managing director of Universal Records, Bella Dy Tan, signed them as contract artists after witnessing one of their performances at Club Dredd. Soon their initial recordings such as Buloy, Trip and Lutong Bahay were heard across the nation. Their first album, Khangkhungkherrnitz became a triple platinum hit in the Philippines having sold 120,000 units. The other 3 albums include Buruguduystunstugudunstuy (triple platinum), Jingle Balls Silent Night Holy Cow (gold), and Gulong Itlog Gulong (platinum).
Here are some videos of the band showcasing their wide range of music styles:
Parokya Ni Edgar featuring Kamikazee “Ordertaker” (this song appears to be about ordering food in a restaurant, it ROCKS, has had 905,148 views on Youtube; and after viewing you’ll be chanting “Waiter! Order!” over and over):

Burien’s own Hi-Liners’ fall production of the family-friendly “Thoroughly Modern Millie” wraps up this weekend (Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7:30pm and Sunday, Sept. 27 at 1:30pm) at the Highline Performing Arts Center, and we’d like to encourage all our Readers who haven’t been to go see it.
Not just to support the Hi-Liners, a great non-profit that helps kids channel their passions into pure talent (which you’ll definitely see on display, as this show is professionally produced and is hilarious!), but also because the Hi-Liners need your help.
If you don’t believe our endorsement, here are some others:
“The kids were absolutely AMAZING and I can’t wait to see it again next weekend!”, said one audience member.
“I laughed so hard that I nearly fell out of my seat!” said another.
“It was the most professional student production I’ve ever seen!” raved another audience member.
But don’t just rely on what you hear…go see the show and experience it first hand on its closing weekend – good seats are still available – to purchase a ticket, please visit their website at www.hi-liners.org or by calling 206-617-2152
Kathleen Edwards, our Artistic Director, has said it very well:
“We are not in existence to create professional actors and actresses. The Hi-Liners exist to help produce quality people who become assets to our community and our society in general.”
So far over 4,500 young people have experienced our program since 1994 and I am proud of each one. If our program sounds like a worthwhile addition to our community and you have enjoyed our shows, I hope you will take the time now to insure that we are doing this next year and for many years to come.
The Hi-Liners is a 501 (C) 3 Corporation and all donations are tax deductible. If you would like to make a donation to the Hi-Liners organization, please visit our website at www.hi-liners.org/support.
Thank You so much for your support and I hope to see you at the show!
- Gerry Gilbert
President
The Hi-Liners Inc.
We saw the show last weekend, and we were thoroughly impressed by the acting (especially Alexzandra Gorski as Millie, Kate Moyer as Mrs. Meers, Max Seifert as Mr. Graydon and Taylor Moury as Miss Flannery), the outstanding dancing/choreography, music (there’s a live orchestra in the pit), singing, and of course the hilarious script which includes some knock-out numbers done by local youths.
You should know that we saw this the day after returning from Vegas, where we saw some shows (including Cheap Trick doing Sgt. Peppers!), and we gotta say, this Hi-Liners production rivaled what we saw there.
That my friends is a thorough endorsement from The B-Town Blog, not only of our own Hi-Liners, but of the entire cast as well as Director Kathleen Edwards, Music Director Mara Ostrand, Choreographer Taryn Darr and every single other person involved!
Buy your tickets online, right now, right here (or by calling 206-617-2152) and support local arts and local youth!

According to their MySpace page, Zero Down is:
..Formed in 2002, ZERO DOWN consists of five veteran musicians from the Seattle metal/punk rock scene that cast iron 70’s Arena Rock and NWOBM guitar riffs with hardcore punk intensity. ZERO DOWN has shared the stage with a variety of national acts including UFO, Motley Crue, Godsmack, The Accused, The Supersuckers, Faster Pussycat, L.A. Guns, Michael Schenker Group, George Lynch, Thor, Prong, Zeke and many more. Their new CD, “Good Times at the Gates of Hell” was recorded at Jupiter Studios with Martin Feveyear (QOTSA, Screaming Trees, Duff McKeagan’s Loaded, etc) and includes artwork by the master of metal art, Ed Repka (Megadeth, 3 Inches of Blood, Death, Misfits, etc)!
Check out what the rest of the world has to say:
Hands, er, down, Seattle’s Zero Down are America’s best unsigned band, and to be that, you gotta have more than one beer-bongin record of clanging rock God-ness, and well, Zero Down have two, 2005’s Old Time Revival and now this Ed Repka-painted ripper! – Martin Popoff (BWBK Magazine & Hard Radio.com)
…and Midnight Idols are:
“A true Head banging, fist pumping fury from start to finish.”
- metalwarrants.com“…from the opening title track Midnight Idols scorch this gig, laying down a proud pounding metal assault that is sure to please fans of the old school of rock.”
- maximummetal.com“I’ve not heard a riff cooler than the opening to “Satan’s Son” since 1985, believe it. If the NWOBHM and the Sunset Strip mated and created a bastard child of excessive proportions, it’d sound something like the Midnight Idols.”

Just when you thought the hot part of summer was over comes news that the Burien Interim Art Space is hosting “Pieces of 8,” a FREE “urban concert presented in 8 channels over 2 days and a city block” on Saturday, Aug. 15th and Sunday, Aug. 16th.
That’s right – this is going to be a live performance of compositions written for 8 channels over 8 speaker stacks cranked up and placed throughout the B/ IAS site (see diagram below for details).
So basically, you’re going to enjoy a two-day cutting edge musical “Burien Man”-styled eargasm happening stretched over the one acre site.
This event will not only enable artists to create sound performances on a scale deeper, larger and in a truly unique environment…it will Rock. Burien. Out.
The schedule is:
- Pre-Recorded compositions Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
- Live 8 Channel performances from 6:30 pm to 11:00 PM both days
Pieces of Eight appears to have been inspired by “The Parking Lot Experiments,” a show that The Flaming Lips did in 1996-97 that was inspired by an incident in Wayne Coyne’s youth, where he noticed that car radios in the parking lot at a concert were playing the same songs at the same time. Coyne created 40 cassette tapes to be played in synchronization. The band invited people to bring their cars to parking lots, where they would be given one of the tapes and then instructed when to start them. The music was “a strange, fluid 20 minute sound composition”.
Pieces of Eight will be playing the Flaming Lips eight channel experiment called ZAIREEKA in its entirety. This is a wonderful opportunity for Flaming Lips fans and experimental music fans to hear this epic piece in its entirety the way it was envisioned.
Here’s a video of one “Parking Lot Experiment” to give you an idea of what to expect (it may look/sound like a buncha noise in this video, but trust us…once you’re there it’ll be an immersive happening…):
Artists will include:
- David Hahn Presents: Virus Cosmos (God as a Virus) With Ellen Mclain and John Patrick Lowrie.
- Nan Avant: World Music
- Scientific American aka C Andrew Rohrmann
- Jim Bartz and his StringStation:
- Doug Zangar
- Peter Comley:Requiem for a Mannequin
- Matt Menovcik
- Jeff Aaron Bryant
- Dave Fridmann & Scott Booker “Flaming Lips” present:ZAIREEKA
- impacttestdummy

ABOUT JOSHUA ROMAN
“Cellist Joshua Roman has taken this area by storm,” says Anthony Spain, music director, Northwest Symphony Orchestra. “Rarely has there been an outpouring ofenthusiasm of this magnitude about such a musician locally.”
The Seattle Times heralds Mr. Roman’s playing [with] “… heart-stopping beauty” and “… big, succulent tone and impassioned style” while the Seattle Post-Intelligencer declares “He is a musician of imagination and expressive breadth.”
Since winning the section principal chair at the Seattle Symphony in 2006 at the age of 22, Joshua Roman has become a favorite of Seattle music lovers. His pursuit of new challenges led him in 2008 to expand his horizons and embark full-time on his growing solo classical career. As a concerto soloist, he has performed with the Seattle Symphony, Spokane Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, and the Wyoming Symphony. The 2008 – 09 season will include, among others, performances with the Edmonton Symphony, Quad City Symphony, Stamford Symphony, and Northwest Symphony Orchestra. He frequently performs on instruments from the collection of David Fulton.
Dubbed a “Classical Rock Star” by the press, cellist Joshua Roman has earned a reputation for performing a wide range of repertoire with an absolute commitment to communicating the essence of the music at its most organic level. Since winning the Principal chair in the cello section of the Seattle Symphony at the age of 22, he has become a favorite of Seattle music lovers, with sold out solo and chamber performances throughout the city. When not performing in or in front of a Symphony Orchestra, Joshua is likely to be found on the stage of a club, performing music as varied as jazz or rock, as well as chamber music or a solo sonata by Kodaly or Bach.
Homeschooled until the age of 16, when he left to pursue his musical studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Joshua received his Bachelor Degree in Cello Performance in 2004 studying with Richard Aaron. In 2005 he also received his Masters Degree from the CIM, studying with Desmond Hoebig, Principal Cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra. Joshua frequently performs on cellos from the collection of David Fulton.
Here are some videos featuring Joshua in action (our fave is the first, a rockin’ symphonic rendition of “Stairway to Heaven,” with Joshua on lead cello on the left):

In addition to hosting the Highline Vintage Jazz Festival, Burien Arts also: runs a vibrant art gallery, manages the South King County High School Arts Program and Education Annex, supports a summer performing arts series, and partners with other arts groups, civic organizations and the City of Burien to bring exciting art installations and community festivals to the region.
Tickets to the event are available online through Brown Paper Tickets or by calling: 1-800-838-3006.
Walk-up sales can be made at Allusia in downtown Burien, located at 921 S.W. 152nd Street in Olde Burien.

12/19/08 UPDATE: THIS CONCERT HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO SATURDAY, JAN. 3rd; David sent us this email:
This year’s Christmas Concert has been postponed to Saturday night, January 3rd. Same place, same time. For more info, go to www.davidtempleton.com and click on “Calendar”.
Burien resident David Templeton, an amazingly-talented classical/jazz pianist who’s released five albums, will be performing an evening of Christmas music at the Landmark on the Sound on Saturday, Dec. 20th starting at 7pm Saturday, Jan. 3rd!
This venue is a chateau-like castle built in the 1920s overlooking Puget Sound. Located in Des Moines, this theater harkens back to the romantic days of the Grand Hotel featured in the movie “Somewhere In Time.”
We met with Mr. Templeton recently, and found him to be a charming, engaging, intelligent artist who knows the Burien area quite well. In fact, he’s lived in the Three Tree Point neighborhood since 1987, where he has his own music studio.
He even loaned us a CD called “The Crossing,” with permission to include some tracks – so if you haven’t yet heard his music, click on the “Play” buttons below:
[display_podcast]
Here’s his website bio:
I began playing the piano at the age of three, before I could even reach the pedals. I have never been able to read or write music, I just hear it in my head and then play it. People often ask me how I come up with the ideas for my songs. The source of my inspiration varies from people I’ve known to places I’ve been, to those that I dream of knowing. Sometimes I get inspired by walks along the beach around Seattle and spending time in Washington State’s beautiful San Juan Islands.
I always hear music in my head, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I listen for the best ideas and work them into songs, refining them until I say only what I need to say in the most elegant way possible. Then I record them at home in my studio. The piano I play and record on is called a Bosendorfer, a hand made instrument, which some say is the finest in the world. Take a look at some photos of the Bosendorfer in the image gallery. It takes seven years from start to finish to build and the one I play has 92 keys instead of the usual 88. Having such a wonderful piano to practice and record on inspires and motivates me to create better and higher caliber music.
WHAT: David Templeton’s Christmas Concert
WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 20th at 7pm. SATURDAY, JAN, 3rd. Refreshments will be served.
WHERE: Landmark on the Sound is located at 23660 Marine View Drive South, Des Moines (map below)

From favorites such as The Holly and the Ivy and O Holy Night to Dale Warland’s spine-chillingly beautiful new Sommerset Carol, Silver Bells has all the wonderful singing families have come to expect from the CSN Christmas Concert.
As a special treat, beloved Seattle TV icon Stan Boreson (KING’s Klubhouse) joins Silver Bells with his hilarious Scandinavian send-ups of popular Christmas tunes like Walkin’ in My Winter Underwear and Ragnar, the Flat-Nosed Reindeer.
Not to be left out of the fun, CSN plans its own merriment, with unforgettable takes on such favorites as I’m Getting’ Nuttin” for Christmas and Mr. Santa along with a hysterical Thirty-Second Fa-La-La.

As Sat. Sept. 6th approaches, we’re both excited and downright giddy about our very-own B-Town BlogstockAPalooza, a live, outdoor local music stage at Burien’s annual Artwalk that starts at 6pm and rocks on with four bands until 11:30pm/midnight.
To keep our Readers’ music appetites whetted and nicely teased, we’ve been presenting some music and video clips all week of some of the bands that will appear on our stage, located smack dab in the middle of street on SW 152nd at 10th Ave SW (map below), near The Tin Room and The Mark Restaurant (both of which incidentally will be having extended outdoor seating for fans interested in having food or beverages as they watch the show).
The lineup:
6pm: Daybreak
7:15pm: Lost in the Bamboo
9pm: Skwish
10pm: Morris Can Fly
Today’s music tease – the night’s headliner (starting ’round 10pm), Morris Can Fly, with an online mini-concert of songs you’ll be sure to hear Sat. night.
Here’s a bio from the band’s website:
F*cked over by everyone since birth, Steve, Marc and Barry formed a rock band in 1999 called MORRIS CAN FLY.
Totally ignored by their hometown of Seattle, the band has toured relentlessly and built a die-hard following of rock fans that would slit their wrists just to party with the band.
The band’s first CD quietly sold 2,000 copies, largely on the strength of the single “Velvet Jesus”, which received airplay in smaller markets like Canton, Ohio and Spokane, Washington. The band’s second CD, released in January 2006, was recorded at Rick Parishar’s London Bridge studios in Seattle, Washington
MORRIS CAN FLY has received the prestigious ASCAP PLUS award for the last three years running. The American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP) gives this award each year to unsigned artists who receive airplay and make significant contributions to their genre of music.
MORRIS CAN FLY has no real management and no agent. It’s just a power trio of guys who play loud and are never happy unless they leave their listeners hot, sweaty and exhausted.
Feel free to contact the band at “bitch@morriscanfly.com”. Say whatever you feel. It’s a free country…
And now, ladies and gentlemen of B-Town, we proudly present a band that’s part 80s power pop, part Red Hot Chili Peppers, with a touch of Cheap Trick’s stage presence and of course the creative original juices of pure B-Town in their blood….Morris Can Fly! The classic Steven Spielberg film “E.T.” will play tonight at Lake Burien School Memorial Park starting around 8:30pm for FREE!
NOTE: we mistakenly stated the start time as 9:30pm in our Weekly Newsletter but we’ve since been corrected…sorry for any confusion!
“He is afraid. He is totally alone. He is 3 million light years from home.”
Considered by many to be Steven Spielberg’s most successful and symbolic fantasy, this 1982 film was nominated for 9 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
Plot synopsis:
As Elliot (Henry Thomas) lures E.T. into his house and up to his room, it becomes apparent that the two have become some how connected. E.T. is hungry so Elliot also feels hunger and goes to get E.T. food. Elliot also feels fear when E.T. is fearful, and when E.T. becomes tired Elliot also becomes tired and falls asleep. Toward the end of the movie when E.T. becomes very sick, he disconnects himself so as not to harm Elliot.
