“An employee of the bakery had a dispute with the victim earlier in the week,” said Cindi West of the KCSO. “Last night the employee, the victim and several other people were at the bakery. The suspect, who is known to both the victim and the employee went to the bakery and confronted the victim about the earlier dispute. During the argument the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim multiple times. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Police say that witnesses initially told the police it was a robbery because they feared the suspect would come back and retaliate.

The suspect was arrested at approximately 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning in the area of SW 116 and 1st Ave SW.

PREVIOUSLY: The King County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a man is dead after being shot and killed during an attempted robbery at the Seattle Roll Bakery Shop in the 9800 block of 16th Ave SW in White Center early Wednesday morning (Dec. 28).

Police say that the shooting happened just after midnight at the bakery. Three employees were inside when a man entered and attempted to rob the 24-hour Vietnamese sandwich shop.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was shot twice and died at the scene. The other two employees were not hurt.

The shooting suspect, described as a 5’8″ man wearing a blue hoodie sweatshirt, blue jeans and gray Nike tennis shoes, fled the scene on foot and is still at large. He apparently also wore a black bandana over the lower half of his face.

The boy was not hurt when glass from a window shattered by several bullets fell onto him.

The shots apparently originated from a passing white Ford Explorer or pickup truck.

King County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the shooting in the 14200 block of 8th Ave. South (map below) around 2:25 p.m. Sunday, after receiving a call about shots being fired.

We first heard of this incident when King County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Cindi West Tweeted :

Drive by shooting 14200 block 8 Ave S Burien. 18 month old hit by glass from window. I’m heading that way now!

There’s no word yet on whether the shooting was gang related or not, but police say they don’t believe it was random because in order to shoot at the house, the vehicle had to turn down a dead end road.

As many of our Readers are aware, on Nov. 5, 2011, at 2:40 a.m., 19-year old Jayme Thomas was shot and killed as she sat in the backseat of a vehicle in the 800 block of Redondo Way South.

Jayme Thomas, 19, was shot and killed in Des Moines on Sunday, Nov. 5th.

According to a Facebook Page, a Memorial Service for Jayme Leilani Thomas, the 19-year old woman who was shot and killed last weekend in Des Moines, will be held this Saturday, Nov. 12th from 1 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Mount Rainier High School.

As we previously reported, Thomas was shot early Saturday morning (Nov. 5) in the 800 block of Redondo Way South, along with a 24-year old man, who suffered non life-threatening injuries. She later died of her injuries at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The suspects are still at large, and police are seeking the public’s help (see below for details).

Thomas was well-known and liked, and worked as a lifeguard and coach at Olympic View Swim Club in Normandy Park.

Her Facebook Page has been turned into a memorial, and is full of memories, photos and comments.

Also, donations to the Jayme Thomas Memorial Fund can be made at any branch of Chase Bank.

According to witnesses, a verbal confrontation occurred between two separate groups early Saturday before the shooting occurred. Witnesses stated two males started passing a gun around and then fired shots into the victim’s vehicle.

The two male suspects were described as an Asian Male in his early 20s, and a Black Male, in his early to late 20s.

Witness also provided police with a description of two separate vehicles the two male suspects fled the scene in prior to the police arriving:

• Vehicle 1: 1990-1995, flat black Honda Civic 2 door with black & chrome after market rims and tinted windows.
• Vehicle 2: Lowered 1990-1995, primer black Honda Civic 2 door with black spoke rims, large chrome muffler, no front license plate, tinted windows, and had recent body work near the rear driver’s side wheel well.

Detectives are actively investigating and request anybody with information in regards to this incident to please contact the Des Moines Police Department at (206) 878-3301.

On Monday (Oct. 17) the King County Prosecutor’s Office sentenced Matthew Dubois, who shot and killed his girlfriend in Burien on Dec. 31, 2009, to 14 years in prison.

Dubois pleaded guilty to Murder Second Degree in the shooting death of his girlfriend, Mikarah “Tinky” Sanders, in an apartment complex in the 12400 block of Ambaum Blvd. SW.

As we reported then, Dubois shot Sanders, then himself. Initially police believed that there was a shooter on the loose, and they scoured the area searching for a gunman. It wasn’t until later that they realized that Dubois actually shot himself.

Police say that Dubois was upset with something he read on Sanders’ MySpace Page (which is still online) before getting into a fight and shooting her in the head.

Dubois, who was 16 at the time, was charged as an adult, and he pleaded guilty Aug. 26.

Today’s sentencing was before Judge Cheryl Carey at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center.

On Tuesday (Sept. 20), the King County Sheriff’s Office released the following police report to The B-Town Blog, detailing Monday’s shooting incident at the Southwest Seattle Ambulatory Center on SW 160th, which resulted in a lockdown of Sylvester Middle School as well as Three Tree Montessori School.

Some of the more interesting details emerging include:

• At least four different windows to the clinic had been shot at, on two different floors.
• As a responding deputy drove into the parking lot, shots were fired and bullets flew past her patrol car.
• Two parked cars were also hit.
• When occupants of a nearby apartment building saw police, they closed their blinds. Police got suspicious, obtained a search warrant and investigated the apartment, where they found two firearms as well as narcotics.
• Four people were arrested at the apartment: a 16-year old female and three males (20, 20 and 21).

Here’s the police report we obtained Tuesday (Sept. 20):

On 09/19/2011 at approximately 1140 hrs, I was dispatched to Southwest Seattle Ambulatory Center 275 SW 160 ST. Radio dispatch advised that windows to the building had been damaged due to fireworks. However, while I was en route I was updated by radio dispatch that the employees at Southwest Seattle Ambulatory Center reported gun shots having been fired.

As a deputy drove her patrol vehicle to the south side of the building and heard what she believed to be bullets fly past her patrol vehicle and she also heard gunshots.

I walked inside of the building and was led to the first floor break room. The breakroom was on the east side of the building. I saw a bullet hole, approximately a quarter size in the window. Glass was shattered on the table. One of the employees had been seated at the table in the break room when the bullet hit the window.

I was led upstairs to the second floor and was shown three large glass windows that had multiple bullet holes in them. I located several bullet fragments on the floor and collected them for evidence.

While I was on the second floor with a deputy saw a white male, and female on the second story, balcony of the Fox Cove apartments 159 SW 160 ST looking around and when they saw Police they closed the blinds and went inside.

I took a position on the roof of the building to overwatch the potential shooter apartment that we had seen activity on.

Occupants (names redacted) walked out to Deputies and were detained.

A search warrant was written up by Police and Police entered the apartment after very loudly announcing their intent and authority. Police located a female and two males inside a locked bedroom.

I located two parked cars on the southside of the building with bullet holes.

I was advised by Detectives that two firearms were located inside of the apartment. A .22 caliber rifle and a .38 caliber revolver were located in  the apartment. I was also advised by Detectives that suspected narcotics were located to include; Meth, Marijuana, pills and Cocaine.

Detectives advised me that the .38 caliber revolver was stolen per WACIC NCIC.

XXX  (female age 16) was cited for reckless endangerment and had an outstanding arrest warrant with Juvenile Court and was booked into Youth Services Center.

XXX (male age 20) was booked for Investigation of VUFA. XXX (male age 21) was also was booked for Investigation of VUFA. XXX (age 20) was booked for Investigation of Possession of Stolen Firearm and Investigation VUCSA. All three suspects were booked into King County Jail for the above charges.

UPDATE 9/19/11 4:15 p.m.: We just received confirmation from Sgt. John Urquhart of the King County Sheriff’s Office that the shots that were fired Monday around Noon actually came from an apartment complex, with “at least one” hitting the Ambulatory Surgery Center at 275 SW 160th Street near Sylvester Middle School.

Urquhart also added that in addition to the surgery center, shots hit “a car or two I think.”

PREVIOUSLY:

UPDATE 9/19/11 3:20 p.m.: Other media outlets are reporting that Monday afternoon’s shooting in Burien actually took place at the Ambulatory Surgery Center, located at 275 SW 160th Street, just east of Sylvester Middle School.

We were told directly by Sgt. John Urquhart of the King County Sheriff’s Office that the shooting took place at an apartment complex located east of there on SW 160th.

PREVIOUSLY:

Shots were apparently fired from an apartment complex located about one block east of Sylvester Middle School on SW 160th in Burien Monday around 11:30 a.m. (Sept. 19), according to Sgt. John Urquhart of the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Nobody was hit, there were no injuries, and as this story was posted, the shooter was still at large.

“This had nothing to do with the school,” Urquhart said over the phone. “We think it was just reckless shooting from an apartment nearby.”

The apartment is apparently located just across the street from Andy’s Handy Mart/Arco station in the 150 block of SW 160th.

Sylvester Middle School was locked down as a precaution, as was Three Tree Point Montessori School and other buildings nearby.

UPDATE 9/19/11 3 p.m.: At 2:56 p.m., the following email was sent out by Slyvester Middle School:

Dear Sylvester Families,

Today around 12:00 p.m. the Sylvester Middle School office received a call from police that shots were fired at a residence near campus. Authorities asked us to put the school in lockdown during the search for the suspect. As the safety of our student’s is our number one priority, we put the school in lockdown, and all students were accounted for. At 1:45, we were informed by police that we could go into modified lockdown, which allows students to move about inside the school, and all students were able to get their lunch.

Police have informed us that it is safe to release the students at 2:40 today, but all after school activities have been cancelled. Students will be released on 4th Avenue to 158th with police presence to direct them away from the police activity.

It is a common precautionary measure to put a school in lockdown whenever there is police activity in the area. As a standard practice, school remains in lockdown until we receive clearance from the police department to return to our regular schedule.

For the safety of both students and parents, we do not alert parents while a lockdown is in progress or allow students to contact their parents by cell phone. This is emergency management best practice. Police do not want parents to come to school to retrieve their children, because that could put the parent in danger and/or could compromise the police investigation.

I know it is alarming when there is police activity near your child’s school. Please know that your child’s safety is the central purpose of all our emergency procedures.

UPDATE 9/19/11 2:32 p.m.: We just spoke with Lisa at the main office at Sylvester, and she assured us that students will be released on time today.

If you were anywhere near the area Monday afternoon, you may have heard the Sheriff’s Guardian One chopper circling overhead (as of 2:15 p.m. it was still circling), or you saw up to 10 or so police cruisers along with numerous officers wearing bulletproof vests scouring the area.

Officers in bulletproof vests were seen scouring the area Monday afternoon.

The King County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a deputy shot and seriously wounded a man who was holding a knife during a domestic violence disturbance Friday night (Sept. 2nd).

The incident occurred about 10:50 p.m. inside an apartment at 10002 Des Moines Memorial Drive in the Boulevard Park neighborhood.

Two deputies had responded to a 911 call about a man assaulting his wife at that apartment. Deputies arrived and the man was shot about two minutes later. The wife and two other females were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting.

The suspect is 36-years old and lives at the location, as does his 35-year old wife. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. There is a current No Contact Order in place prohibiting contact between the man and his wife and children. He is also a convicted felon with two Assault Third Degree convictions.

Sheriff’s deputies were last at the apartment in August of 2010 when the man was arrested on domestic violence charges.

The deputy who fired the shot is a veteran officer with at least 25 years working at the Sheriff’s Office.

The joint investigation of the shooting will be conducted by the Major Crimes Unit of the Sheriff’s Office, along with detectives from the Bothell Police Department.
