Today’s the final day of the 2011 Burien Farmers Market, so if you’re itching for fresh produce, arts, crafts and other great stuff, get yourself down to SW 152nd and 5th Place SW before 6 p.m.!

In addition to the usual fall foods and arts and crafts, you can use Debit/Credit/EBT Cards as well.

There are only four Farmers Markets left in Burien this year (the final one will be Oct. 13), and today’s will run from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Town Square Park, located at SW 152nd and 5th Place SW.

Today would be a great day to drop by with the kids after school too – while parents shop, the kids can enjoy the rides at Carnival Days, which starts today as well.

You don't need to bring cash anymore to the Burien Farmers Market, which now accepts Debit/Credit/EBT Cards.

The Burien Farmers Market is open today (Thursday, July 14th) until 6 p.m. and according to Event Manager Debra George, there are three berry vendors, so there should be a plethora of fresh berries to choose from.

In addition, today you’ll also find:

• Adopt-A-Pet from the Seattle Humane Society!
• The usual locally-made arts and crafts.

The Burien Farmers Market will be open until 6pm today, and they’re now accepting Debit/Credit/EBT cards.

The market is located near Town Square Park, at the intersection of SW 152nd and 5th Place SW.

NOTE: The B-Town Blog is not at the market today, due to staffing resources. We’ll next have our booth there on Thursday, June 2nd.

The City of Burien announced Thursday (May 5) that residents are now able to get fresh organic produce and local artisan foods delivered conveniently to the Burien Community Center.

The City Parks Recreation & Cultural Services (PaRCS) Department has teamed up with Full Circle Farms, a farmers’ cooperative, to be a host site for their delivery program of Farm-to-Table produce. The program in Burien is modeled after a similar effort at Tacoma’s community centers. The first delivery in Burien was on May 3.

Residents can sign-up online to receive routine delivery of customized orders containing fresh fruits and vegetables. Boxes are delivered to the Community Center on Tuesday mornings. Members are able to pick up their boxes on Tuesdays from 3 - 7 p.m. or Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The PaRCS Dept. is participating in the program to provide a healthy service and promote good nutrition in the community as part of the “Healthy Highline” initiative. PaRCS also hopes to attract new community members to the community center through this program and expose them to its many programs.

The B-Town Blog is proud to be the “official blog” of the weekly Discover Burien Farmers Market, which kicks off its 2011 season at 11 a.m. today near Burien Town Square.

And new this year – you’ll be able to use credit, debit or EBT cards when you buy farm-fresh produce, locally-made food products and one-of-a-kind handcrafted goods. Some vendors accept credit cards directly. Otherwise, shoppers can use debit, credit or EBT cards by purchasing market tokens at the Discover Burien Association booth. EBT tokens are only good for produce purchases. Debit and credit tokens can be spent like cash with the majority of the market’s 40-plus vendors. The nonprofit Discover Burien (we’re members), which produces the market, will not charge a fee for debit card use.

This will be the third year we’ve been there, and this year we’ve even got a brand new, pristine tent, where we’ll be blogging live and enjoying the fresh foods, crafts and of course the people – so come on over, find us and say hi. We’ll demonstrate our website, pull the curtain back and even let you see how we post stories. Heck, if you’re interesting enough, we might just do a story on YOU right there (and we’re also open to story ideas and news tips too…).

“Freshness is a primary draw for the market,” said Debra George, Discover Burien’s Events Manager. “The just-picked produce is sold directly by local farmers, plus a few from Eastern Washington. Dealing with the farmers without middlemen or delays provides better quality at lower prices.”

Seattle Bagels, hot chili sauce and other new food finds will join the many returning vendors offering items such as organic produce, local raw honey and freshly baked goods.

Take a stress break with bargain eats from the market’s hotdog cart, and dine al fresco at one of the market’s patio tables to live music by Eric “Two Scoops” Moore from noon to 3 p.m.
