When first announced, the city projected an opening of December, 2011 for the $20.5 million, 462-stall, multi-story parking garage (read our coverage of last October’s groundbreaking here). It also includes at least 10 electric car chargers.

The interim park-and-ride lot located at the old BBC Dodge site at First Ave South and S. 148th Street will close this weekend as the new garage opens.

Also, the dedication ceremony for the new facility is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 9 a.m. at the parking garage, at 4th Ave SW north of SW 150th Street. King County Executive Dow Constantine and County Councilmember Joe McDermott will participate in Tuesday’s festivities, along with Burien Deputy Mayor Brian Bennett.

About 40 people, including onlookers, well-wishers, fellow business people and Realtors gathered ’round a red ribbon and a pair of giant, oversized scissors at BTB Real Estate Partner Prudential Northwest Realty’s ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday afternoon (July 20).

Prudential returned to their Olde Burien roots, where they began eight years ago.

“It’s good to have Prudential back in Olde Burien,” said Discover Burien Interim Executive Director Nancy Hinthorne. “They are such a vital part of the community.”

That said, Lori Alden, managing broker of PNW, wielded the giant, functional (and yes, sharp) scissors and successfully cut the ribbon without incident (other than to the ribbon, which was cut in half).

Everyone then went inside for complimentary sweets, tours and talks, while the oversized scissors were carefully stowed out of harm’s way.

The new location of the Prudential office is 930 SW 152nd Street in Olde Burien.

BTB Publisher/Editor Scott Schaefer was also on hand to capture these images:

Out and about after a full day in our Olde Burien offices, we ran into local Artist Eric Edwards at the Tin Room Bar Thursday night (July 14), and when asked what the heck he was doing in B-Town (we know him from White Center), he told us that he had been hanging some of his art at a new gallery, slated to open this Saturday, July 16th.

The new gallery is located at 827 SW 152nd Street in Olde Burien, in the spot formally occupied by Zizia, which closed in April (read our coverage here), and according to Eric, will be open during this Saturday’s Olde Burien Block Party (more info on the party here).

UPDATE 7/15/11: According to Jimi Lou Steambarge, who’s running the new gallery, it will be called ‘GASSHO GALLERY & CREATIVE HUB.’

“We are still rough around the edges and will evolve over the next few weeks, but the fabulous art of Eric Edwards is in the house!” she said on a Facebook post. “Stop by and check it out while at the Olde Burien block party! We are located next door to the Danish Bakery. GRAND OPENING PARTY – FRIDAY AUGUST 19TH!!! Follow us on Facebook!”

Pop culture Artist Eric Edwards' work will be part of Saturday's opening of a new art gallery called GASSHO GALLERY & CREATIVE HUB, located at 827 SW 152nd in Olde Burien.

If you get out to the Olde Burien Block Party, which runs from Noon – Midnight Saturday, you should drop by and see Eric’s work – he uses found objects, mostly pop culture in nature, some kitschy, some bizarre, but all found; then when it’s all put together by him it’s suddenly incredible art – the kind you have to look at closeup to fully appreciate or understand.

WHAT: Artwork of Eric Edwards at a new Art Gallery in Olde Burien.

WHEN: Saturday, July 16th during the Block Party (doors open at 10 a.m.)

WHERE: GASSHO GALLERY & CREATIVE HUB, Burien’s new Art Gallery at 827 SW 152nd Street in Olde Burien.

Here’s Eric’s bio from his Facebook Group Page:

Eric S. Edwards
b.1961, United States
Self taught

I work primarily in mixed media collage and found object assemblage.

I use pop culture advertising posters torn from buildings so far in Seattle, London, San Francisco, Miami and New York city. I like to use the garish colorful adverts and paper fragments in a painterly way and often the image themselves pull me off in unexpected ways. I really enjoy the spontaneity and sometime frustration of the collage process the losing of some image to some other other image, the juxtaposition of objects, the colors and textures.

I am very influenced by street art, graffiti murals, wheat pastes, tags and stickers. Influences also include Robert Rauschenberg, Max Ernst and Romere Bearden and lately Judith Supine and Michael Anderson.

Here are some images of some of Eric’s art from his Flickr page:

UPDATE 7/14/11: After reading a Comment (thanks tiffani) about this, we called the new Burien Ross Dress for Less store (206-243-8881) and discovered that yes indeed, they will be holding a ‘soft opening’ this FRIDAY morning, July 15th at 9:30 a.m.

Originally we were told that it would open July 15th, then corrected to Saturday, July 16th, and amid all the confusion (perhaps this is a planned publicity stunt?) we have updated this post now three times.

The Grand Opening date though will be this SATURDAY, JULY 16th. A ‘soft opening’ means they are not 100% prepared, and they may close the store after only a few hours.

The new Ross Dress for Less is located at 15716 First Ave South in Burien.

The store was was granted temporary occupancy on June 30 from the City of Burien, and they’ve been in the process of loading in merchandise and training employees.

Scott Schaefer dropped by the site Monday afternoon (May 23rd) and took the following pics:

Workers spent most of Monday painting the exterior walls where signage will be installed.

While we were there we spoke with the construction foreman, who told us to expect the store to open “sometime in July.”

Crews are making modifications on the space, including re-wiring the electrical and other major work.

As we learn more information about what will surely become one of Burien’s biggest retail shops, we’ll update the blog, so stay tuned!

Innovative local pop culture Artist Eric Edwards will be holding not one, but TWO Art Shows starting this Saturday, May 21st in White Center – the first one at Dubsea Coffee, and the second at Company.

We had a chance to meet Eric at a recent networking meeting, and he showed us some of his art, which blew us away.

Eric uses found objects, mostly pop culture in nature, some kitschy, some bizarre, but all found, then when it’s all put together by him it’s suddenly incredible art – the kind you have to look at closeup to fully appreciate or understand.

Eric’s work will also be visible on the 3rd Saturday Art Walk; here are the details:

WHAT: Artwork of Eric Edwards

WHEN: Saturday, May 21 · 5:00pm – 8:00pm

WHERE: Two shows in White Center:

Dubsea Coffee, located at 9910 8th Ave SW (Greenbridge).

Company Bar, located at 9608 16th Ave SW.

“They are about 8 blocks apart and both on the White Center Gallery walk,” Eric said. “I will be at DubSea til about 7 and then up to Company.
Looking forward to seeing you.”

Here are some more images of Eric’s art from his Flickr page:

Decanter Wines, the newest wine store and restaurant in Burien, is celebrating their Grand Opening this Friday and Saturday (April 15 and 16) from 11am – 10pm.

Washington winery Masquerade Wine Company will be providing the wine tasting on Saturday from 4pm – 8pm.

Both days they’ll be sampling several different food items and they are offering 10% off everything – including wine and food!

The idea of Decanter Wines comes from the owner/partners, the Grim family of Burien. Mom, Mary and dad Larry were joined by son Matt and daughter Diane in the creation of this wine store. They’ve been in the online line wine sales business for some time with Washington Wines Online. Many of their customers didn’t want to pay shipping charges, so Decanter Wines was born. Now they’ve not only got a place to pick up their wine, but enjoy a nice salad or, some Mediterranean appetizers, salads, soups and even hot sandwiches and desserts while they collect their wine purchases.

So if you’re out doing your Trader Joe’s or Albertson’s (food shopping) thing on Friday or Saturday, and want to sample some of Western Washington’s Finest wines or want to stop for a taste of their new menu, stop over to Decanter Wine and enjoy the hospitality of the Grim family. They’re located at 15830 1st Ave South, in the space formerly occupied by Party City, next to the Verizon store.

Allied Family Dental Care celebrated a “Hello Burien, We Are Open!” ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday (March 2) at its offices on Ambaum Blvd. near 142nd in Burien.

Allied’s Dr. Jared Persinger, DDS PLLC, officially hung out his shingle this past summer and has several years of practice under his belt.

“A good friend of mine told me how wonderful the northwest is. I checked it out and was lucky enough to find Burien,” Dr. Jared, as he is called around the office, said just before the ribbon cutting, which was attended by Burien Mayor Joan McGilton and other dignitaries.

He earned his DDS degree at The University of the Pacific in San Francisco.

“A lot of dentists speak of dental school as if it were army boot camp. But I loved dental school, it was awesome. I loved my teachers. It is a super positive place.”

Dr. Jared and his assistants, Charlene and Jessica, offer afternoon and evening hours.

Senior citizens should inquire about their 10-percent senior discount.

They’re “little kid” friendly, too.
