Organized by bass player and singer Dan Satterberg (aka the King County Prosecutor), the band includes harmonica player and vocalist Bill Mattocks leader of the Bill Mattocks Band, keyboardist and vocalist Michael Hepburn from the nationally known 80′s R&B group Pleasure; drummer and vocalist Rusty Fallis, guitarist Tom Pratt, guitarist and vocalist John Rankin, percussionist and drummer Fred Staples, vocalists Linda Norman and Michelle Purnell-Hepburn. Tom, Rusty, Dan and John also play and record original songs as the Treehouse Dreamers. With such a large band and wide array of musical backgrounds, the Approximations are likely to play songs by Smokey Robinson, the Beatles, AC/DC, Savoy Brown, Stevie Wonder, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Fleetwood Mac and Kings of Leon all in the same set.

“This will be a fun evening and a chance to make a strong statement in support of our City-wide NNO Celebration,” reads a note from the city. “Come meet Crime Prevention Specialists and receive handouts for making your homes and cars safe. See the Rape Aggression Defense program and ask questions or sign up for future classes. It is all free.”

What is National Night Out?

It’s America’s Night Out Against Crime!

The “28th Annual National Night Out” (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 2, 2011. We cordially invite you and your community to be a part of our NIGHT OUT 2011 team.

Last year’s National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2010.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:

• Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
• Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
• Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
• NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits your community will derive from NNO will most certainly extend well beyond the one night.

The annual ‘National Night Out‘ is scheduled to take place Tuesday night, Aug. 2nd, when Burien area residents (and others around the country) get together with neighbors and police officers to talk about fighting crime.

“National Night Out is an annual crime prevention effort in which residents get together with neighbors to discuss ways to fight local crime such as forming a Block Watch,” reads a statement in the City of Burien’s latest newsletter.

Burien Police officers often will attend a neighborhood block party or other gathering to discuss crime prevention.

Last year, the city held an Open House at Burien City Hall North, and various other get-togethers were held in area neighborhoods.

The City of Burien police and staff are holding a “National Night Out” Open House from 6pm – 9pm on Tuesday, Aug. 3rd at Burien City Hall North, located at 11846 Des Moines Memorial Drive South.

National Night Out is a unique community event, celebrated in the United States and Canada, that focuses on prevention of crime and drug activity, and is held the first Tuesday of August every year. It is an annual event to promote cooperation between the police and the community.

City of Burien police and staff invite you to meet your neighbors and learn about ways to keep our community safe.

Tuesday night, Aug. 4th, was “National Night Out,” an annual event where neighborhoods get together with local police and other officials for neighborhood gatherings with the goal of giving crime and criminals a “going away party.”

Photographer Michael Brunk dropped by a party thrown by the Olympic View Estates Homeowner’s Association right here in Burien:

• This is the 8th year they’ve participated
• A total of 28 homes are in the neighborhood
• The homeowners association pays for the BBQ and entertainment, including facepainter Karen Haines from illustriddler.com, DJ Leanna Mason from entertainmentmasters.net and a bouncy toy for the kids
• Neighbors also brought food to share
• The fire department sent a truck over with fire fighters to participate
• A detective from the King County Sheriff’s department also stopped by
• Local politicians were involved as well (Councilmember Kathy Keene attended as well as a couple of other reps from different departments)

To find out if there’s an event in your neighborhood…ask your neighbors! These events are not publicized, as they are meant to be ‘hood/community-oriented, and are run and managed within each area.
