“El Tianguis,” Burien’s weekly outdoor Latino Street Market held Sundays from 11am – 4pm near Burien Town Square Park, is seeking volunteers.

There’s no pay, but it looks like there may be free food involved, not to mention a letter of recommendation and a chance to meet some interesting neighbors and have fun.

Here’s text from an Ad they posted Wednesday (Aug. 4th) on Craigslist:

The Latino Street Market is an open-air market held on Sundays from 11am-4pm along 5th Place beside the Burien Town Square Park between SW 152nd and SW 151st Streets.

With a variety of booths including Latino food and beverages, arts and crafts, home and garden, clothing, electronics, and many other items that are traditionally available in markets in Latino countries.

We need your help!

Looking for those wanting to give back to the community in a variety of ways.

Market Assistants – Assist the Market Manager with, registration, greetering, manning information booth

Promotion Team – Put up poster in local businesses promoting the Market, hand out fliers @ local events.

Benefits:

1. Free meal from any of our vendors the day you volunteer!
2. Letter of recommendation for time volunteered from our Executive Director
3. Great line item for your resume
4. Meet lots of local residents and businesses in the area.
5. Great internship opportunity for students in the marketing and communications field.

The Seattle band Sonando will be grooving their jazzy latin rhythms live at Dottie Harper Park this Sat. Sun. Aug. 10th, from 4-6pm, for FREE!

Here’s a bio from their website:

Sonando was founded in 1990 by Fred Hoadley and Lary Barilleau to explore new directions in the blending of Afro-Cuban rhythms and Jazz.

For over a decade, Sonando has performed original Latin Jazz at festivals, clubs & concerts throughout the Northwest.

Our first two recordings, Sonando (1995) & La Rumba Esta Buena (1998), received airplay and critical acclaim throughout the country. Our third, Sonando Tres, was released May 16, 2006 on the Origin Arts label, and is currently being aired around the country.

Sonando‘s repertoire includes traditional & modern interpretations of Afro-Cuban styles such as Son, Changui, Bata & Rumba, as well as our signature Latin Jazz. We perform on folkloric instruments such as bata, marimbula, tres, congas, & shekere, as well as modern jazz instruments including flute, sax, trombone, piano, bass, & drumset.
