Along with all the hats that will be worn during this Saturday’s ‘Hats On For Highline’ event at Emerald Downs, there will actually be the ‘Sport of Kings,’ in the form of what some call the “most exciting two minutes in sports” – the Kentucky Derby!

It’s also a great Mother’s Day gift – what says “I love ya Mom” better than a day at the races?

This event is a fundraiser for the Highline Medical Center Foundation, with gates opening at 11:30am. The fun starts at Noon with a buffet lunch, followed by live horse racing at 1pm, and the big Kentucky Derby at 3pm.

In additon, a Silent Auction ends at 1:30pm, and Hat Contest winners will be announced at 2:30pm.

As with any horse race, there will be betting. As with any betting games, there will be winners and there will be losers. Which will you be?

Tickets are $60 per person, and includes admission to Emerald Downs, seating in a a private VIP trackside tent, lunch, parking, program racing form and tip sheet. The Highline Medical Center Foundation will host its 3rd annual Hats On for Highline (we’re Media Sponsors), a Kentucky Derby Day fundraiser at Emerald Downs race track on Saturday, May 7th, and they’re seeking Corporate Sponsors.

Highline Medical Center Foundation has just completed its 2010 Employee Campaign with a record-setting $53,000 in pledges and donations.

“This is the most successful year of the employee campaign with close to 200 participants!” said Gloria Brain from the laboratory at the Burien medical center..

“These contributions exemplify employees’ commitment to Highline Medical Center and our community,” Brain added. “Funds raised go to support the hospital’s greatest needs, building renovations, advanced medical equipment, employee and patient education, and low-income patient assistance.

“In the four years I have worked at Highline, I have seen the Foundation put much needed equipment for the Hospital, fund the new Emergency Department’s treatment room number 1, supply educational funds, and now they are helping fund the remodel of the Geriatric Psychiatry unit – all much needed to assist us in better serving our patients.”

The Annual Golf Classic, presented by McKay Wealth Management, benefiting Burien’s Highline Medical Center, is scheduled for Wednesday, July 28th at Washington National Golf Club, located at 14330 SE Husky Way in Auburn.

This annual fundraiser for has raised over $1 million dollars over 25 years for the Highline Medical Center Foundation, which uses the funds to meet the health-related needs of our community.

Once again this event will unite donors, staff and corporate sponsors of Highline Medical Center along with staff and community members for a day of great golf while supporting Highline in the process.

Registration for the event can be done online here (just select “Annual Golf Tournament” in the drop-down menu). The cost is $250 per golfer, which includes lunch and dinner.

The shotgun start for the scramble format tournament is 1 p.m., with registration beginning at 11:30 a.m.

According to owner Dan House, around $3,000 was raised for the cause by a diverse crowd of family and friends, including his wife Claudia, Mom Chirlee, brother Steve, and Ernie Eder, former owner of the Hi-Line Tin Shop, who toiled away for many years doing metalwork in the very same building. Also spotted in the crowd was local author Shawn Underwood, who’s holding a book signing party at the Tin Room this Thursday (details here).
