We’ll let Reuben describe the incident in his own words:

Burien Robbery Alert!

My day just got really interesting. I almost! almost stopped a robbery of Bryn Karlberg’s across the street neighbor on Shorewood dr. SW Burien. They got away with a TV but not without me blocking them from backing out with my car, me reaching in, grabbing the steering wheel causing them to take out a small tree and finally the only joyful part of the experience was the beautiful right cross I delivered to the drivers jaw and hearing him yell “F**k,F**K!! as he drove away.

The 2 suspects-2 white males 21-25 years old. A Blue Mazda 626 license #572 ZXB.

The word in the neighborhood is these guys have been casing/stealing from this area for a while.

Any info can be sent to Deputy J.M. Hennessy King County Sheriff cell (206) 391-1606 case #11-274664.

If you know these boys please turn them in, If you see them call 911.

If I see them!, well, have you ever seen any Charles Bronson movies?

B-Town Blog Advertiser the Highline Athletic Club has discovered a new way to do business that’s proving to be a triple winner for communities around the country – they are part of The HealthClub Fundraiser network, which puts a sample health club membership within reach of just about everybody, raises money for community organizations and brings new members to the local club.

“It’s a win-win-win,” said Dona Forrester, HAC General Manager. “We’re so pleased to spread the fitness message and help our local organizations raise money at the same time, and there is no money required to get started!”

Highline Athletic Club is looking for non-profit groups such as parent-teacher organizations, school bands and cheer squads to church groups and individuals raising money for charities. Instead of holding bake sales and chocolate bar drives, group members sell 2-month passes to Highline Athletic Club for only $20. The group keeps $10 for each pass sold. The average fund-raising group sells 100 to 150 passes, but some have sold as many as 500 in a single fund-raising drive. Many of the groups who have partnered with Highline Athletic Club’s fundraiser program say the passes are easy to sell because the club is a great club to work out at and because of the high awareness of the value of exercise and family fun. There’s no minimum order of passes and no limit to the amount of money a group can raise.

Here’s how The HealthClub Fundraiser works: Local fundraising organizations log on to the HealthClub Fundraiser website at www.healthclubfundraiser.com and complete an online form to get started. The HealthClub Fundraiser provides all the tools and resources the groups need, including marketing materials, order forms at no charge. Once the sale is over, the fundraising organization picks up their passes at the local participating club. We will support one to two fundraisers per month, so be sure to get on our calendar early. The fund-raising partners include church groups, school groups and other various charities.

“This is a whole new way of doing business for us,” added Forrester. “It stands to benefit so many people in Burien, Normandy Park, Des Moines and Tukwila and improve the fitness of our community, too.”

The HealthClub Fundraiser is a subsidiary of the Northwest Athletic groups which includes the PEAK Health and Wellness Centers in Montana and Idaho, the Montana Athletic Club – Bigfork, The Wave Aquatics and Fitness Center and the Harbor Square Athletic Club.

B-Town Blog Advertiser Highline Athletic Club has been serving the fitness needs in our community since 1988 and their state of the art Pilates Studio is celebrating its 5th year.

You may have heard the word ‘Pilates,’ but might be unsure what is actually is; here’s more info from our friends at HAC:

What is Pilates?
Pilates is a core training exercise regimen. Core strength, flexibility and balance will improve with Pilates training. HAC’s Pilates studio offers private, semi-private and group (2-5 people) apparatus training as well as mat Pilates to members as well as non- members. Private Sessions allow the instructor to customize the session to suit your individual needs. You can expect the same attention to detail in a Private Pilates session that you would expect from working with a Personal Trainer and group and Mat classes are kept small to allow one-on-one instruction.

Pilates training will benefit you in many everyday tasks such as getting in and out of the car, and simple everyday bending and reaching will become easier. There is nothing better for good posture than strengthening your core through Pilates Training. You will feel taller, and Pilates will give you a nice sense of well being after your session.

Highline Athletic Club would like to invite B-Town Blog Readers to come by and tour our studio. We offer non-member Pilates packages and will be offering 5th anniversary specials in August.

Here is a testimonial from a new client taking Pilates at Highline Athletic Club:

I had always heard wonderful things about Pilates and the outstanding results and changes one can see when making Pilates a part of their regular exercise regimen. After having the opportunity to experience Pilates at Highline Athletic Club first hand as instructed by Scott Miller, my exercise routine has forever changed. I fell in love with Pilates.

If you are worried about being capable- there is no need to worry – Each session with Scott is different and customized to my ability and strength, as we work every muscle while focusing on my overall core strength, balance, and breathing technique. You will sweat, you will be sore, but this is because you are achieving a full body work out in one hour with no running or weights involved, and I can guarantee that you will enjoy every minute of it. I have seen small, yet very important changes in the past few months as my core has begun to tighten and become stronger, and my flexibility and posture have improved immensely.

Scott Miller, HAC Pilates Director is an AMAZING instructor- he makes you feel really comfortable, confident, knows when to push you just that extra inch that you wouldn’t do unless he told you to- because you thought you had already reached as far as you could. He’s really POSITIVE, all the time. He keeps your count, keeps the sessions flowing, and uses the whole hour so well!

Pilates is now a part of my weekly routine and I cannot live without it! The feeling you have after completing a session with Scott is one that can only be described as one of strength, accomplishment, and peace with oneself.

- Christina 07/12/11

Water safety is extremely important year round, but especially in the summer months. B-Town Blog Advertiser Highline Athletic Club wants parents to understand the importance of swim lessons for our children, as well as adults. Living in the Pacific Northwest, we are surrounded by water and getting in the water seems natural.

Children will experience water while on a boat, in a river, lake, ocean or pool. Each has very different conditions and requires unique responses. Pools contain clear, clean, heated water with established depths and boundaries, often with lifeguards on duty. Lake and ocean swimming require a greater degree of swimming knowledge because of the lack of controls – you swim in true wilderness when outdoors. These have a thermocline – a cold water channel that is about 5 – 7 feet from the surface of the water. This water is cold and dense – never dive into this layer of water. Parents with children old enough to swim in deep water should explain this cold layer of water. Have your child go feet first – with you – by sculling with hands, and feel the cold water with the tips of the toes. Alerting your child to this layer could save his/her life.

Rivers and oceans have currents. Today, there is a heightened water level in our rivers due to an unusual amount of rainfall. There has been a new law that went into effect this month – everyone in an unincorporated King County River with a current, must wear a life vest (PFD – personal flotation device).

Swim lessons prepare your children for fun in pools, rivers, lakes and oceans. Swim lessons are available by B-Town Blog Advertiser, Highline Athletic Club for members and non-members. Children who learn the basic swim and safety skills succeed at that level and progress to the next. Classes are available for each level of swimmer, from beginner to advanced with parent/tot classes as well. Prepare your child for fun, safe times in the water this summer, and sign up for swim lessons at the Highline Athletic Club.

Beginner, intermediate and advanced youth swim and Mom/Pop/Tot classes begin June28, Tuesdays and Thursdays for three weeks (six ½ hour lessons). Class size is limited for individual attention. If you have questions about lessons, please email Teresa Matthews, our Aquatic Director at teresam@highlineathleticclub.com.

Register by calling HAC at 206-246-9000.

Here’s more directly from our friends at HAC:

Learn to Swim and Water Safety

As parents, we understand the importance of swim lessons for our children. Living in the Pacific Northwest, water surrounds them and safety must come first. But many of us know that getting in water also goes beyond safety.

By teaching children how to swim and respect the water, they learn how to swim safely in diverse aquatic situations such as pools, lakes, rivers, and oceans. Swimming is simply great exercise for many reasons. Exercise in water is movement without pain. Water’s high density and lack of gravity creates support for the body, while allowing freedom of movement. Swimming in water causes us to breathe deeply, instantly. And swimming teaches your child the lifelong value of exercise. Once children have learned swimming basics, they are free to explore and move creatively. Exercise in water is gravity-free and fun.

Lessons in water help us on land. Children can find a new sense of freedom in water and experience a new dimension of awareness caused by sensory adaptation (sounds and sights diminish in water). In water, life is simple with extraordinary lessons. Children learn the basic swim and safety skills, succeed at that level and progress to the next. Classes are available for each level of swimmer, from beginner to advance with parent/tot classes as well. Prepare your child for fun, safe times in the water this summer, and sign up for swim lessons at the Highline Athletic Club!!
