4Culture & King County Metro Transit announced Monday (April 11th) that they’re seeking King County-based game designers and game design teams to submit concepts for an innovative and creative mobile game for the RapidRide B Line, the County’s second route of bus rapid transit that will service Bellevue-Redmond.

“The game will be accessible via personal mobile devices while onboard WiFi-enabled RapidRide buses and through broad internet access,” reads the announcement. “This is a great opportunity for a game designer/team to focus on artistry, or for a public artist to collaborate with designers skilled in interactive media.”

The press release adds:

The mobile game will serve as public art for the inaugural year of B Line service, providing a unique opportunity to deepen public understanding of the potential for games to be rich, artistic and culturally significant.

This is a great opportunity for a game designer/team to focus on artistry, for a public artist to collaborate with designers skilled in interactive media, and for design professionals to consider how artful play can transform a public bus into a rolling plaza for cultural experience.

The mobile game will be designed to (1) demonstrate innovation and artistry in interactive media; and (2) explore and enhance the rider experience along the B Line, emphasizing the experience of interactive discovery on the bus itself. The game will be accessible via personal mobile devices while onboard WiFi-enabled RapidRide buses and through broad internet access.

This RFP is open to game designers and game design teams based in King County, and the deadline is Monday, May 9, 2011 at 5pm.

The budget is $95,000.

As we reported last week, the Burien Bearcats Junior football team played the Richmond Bulldogs in a championship game at U-Dub’s Husky Stadium Sunday (Nov. 7th).

Unfortunately, they lost 26-13.

UPDATE: The John F. Kennedy Catholic High School Girl’s Varsity Volleyball team won their Friday night match against Prairie 3-0, then played on Saturday and beat Capital 3-2 (#7 in state), but lost to Camus (#4 in state) 1-3.

They are off to State tournament finals in Tri-cities as a #2 seed, with the first game scheduled for Friday, Nov. 12th (time TBA).

The loss to Camus was first loss this season, and their record is now 28-1.

They are considered one of the favorites to take it all (Go Lancers!).

PREVIOUSLY:

Yesterday we reported how the Burien Bearcats Junior Football team is slated to play in a championship game at Husky Stadium this Sunday; now comes word that another local team, the John F. Kennedy Catholic High School Girl’s Varsity Volleyball team, is also scheduled to play Friday in state district finals.

JFK’s team is undefeated with a 26-0 record, and is the number #2 ranked team in the 3A League.

Their playoff game in the West Central District Tournament is set for Friday, Nov. 5th at 6pm at Auburn-Mountainview High School, which is located at 28900 124th Ave. SE in Auburn (phone: 253-804-5197).

They have a deep senior dominated team and a marvelous new head coach named name is Joanne Uhl. She won state championships at Blanchet in the past.  She knows her volleyball.

Sea-Tac Airport will be offering a special discount for Seahawks fans, with a 50% discount on Terminal Direct parking for the final home game on Sunday, Jan. 3rd versus the Tennessee Titans.

The idea is to allow affordable parking and encourage fans to take Sound Transit’s Link light rail from SeaTac to the “Stadium” stop near Qwest Field for just $2.50 each way.

According to a press release received Wed., Dec. 30th:

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport invites fans to score a “TD” with a 50% discount on Terminal Direct parking for the Seahawks final home game Jan. 3 versus the Tennessee Titans.

Terminal Direct parking at Sea-Tac Airport offers the most convenient access to the airport terminal and quick connection to Link light rail’s new SeaTac/Airport Station. You’ll park on the 4th floor of the airport garage, an easy walk to the pedestrian bridge leading to the Link station.

On Jan. 3, customers parking in Terminal Direct will enjoy a $2 per hour rate if they arrive between the hours of 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. – plenty of time to experience the quick, convenient ride from SeaTac/Airport Station to stations near Qwest Field. Terminal Direct tickets during that time period will automatically be credited with the discount rate when you exit the airport parking garage.

Hawks fans riding Link to the game can skip any post-game ticket lines by getting an ORCA card from any ticket vending machine before boarding. ORCA cards can be used like cash or as a transit pass on trains, buses or ferries throughout the region. For a limited time, cards are available with no card fee. Starting Feb. 1, a standard adult or youth ORCA card will cost $5. ORCA – One Regional Card for All – will replace about 300 various passes, tickets and transfers with a single smart card. The opening of SeaTac/Airport Station on Dec. 19 means easier access to ORCA and to Link light rail for thousands of visitors, commuters, and Sea-Tac Airport employees. Sound Transit and the Port of Seattle collaborated on the Airport Link project which included the new light rail station, pedestrian bridges connecting the station to the airport parking garage and a pick-up and drop-off area to the east serving the city of SeaTac. The Port also relocated and upgraded the Airport Expressway and the Return-to-Terminal roadway loop. A ride from SeaTac/Airport Station to Westlake Station is 36 minutes and costs $2.50.

Andy MacDonald

Just over three years ago, a torrential storm hit, causing the Cowlitz River near Mt. Rainier to overflow and sweep Highline High ’05 graduate Andy MacDonald away to a tragic death at age 19.

Andy was hunting elk with his family, and the truck he was in fell into the raging river after the bank gave way underneath it.

He was a popular high-school athlete with a great sense of humor, as well as an aspiring firefighter and a friend with “the best hug in the world.” He played soccer, wrestled, was president of his junior class as well as homecoming king. He was known at Highline as a kid who was kind to all, friends said.

Out of tragedy something good can be born; Andy’s family and close friends set up a scholarship in his name. Each November, in honor of Andy’s birthday and untimely passing a soccer game is held known as the “Boys vs. Girls” game. All of his old teammates and friends come out to play a friendly game, and the public is invited to attend.  Afterwards the team holds a raffle at a local restaurant. This consists of items donated from local business and personal items contributed by Andy’s family.

Last year over 200 people attended the game, which was held at Highline Stadium, and we raised more than $4,500.  All of the money is donated to the scholarship. The Andy MacDonald EMT Scholarship is set up at the Puget Sound Skills center where Andy received his firefighting training. This scholarship will assist future Cadets in the Puget Sound Skills Center Fire Services class to help send them to an Emergency Medical Technician class. This year we anticipate sending four to six Cadets to the EMT class and this will aid in covering lab fees, required equipment, travel expenses, etc. Andy’s passion in life was to help those in need and this is our way of assisting others with the same life goal.

The virtual non-gutter ball, strike & spare-rollin’ Senior Bowlers were from various centers around South King County, and the tournament was hosted by the Great American Casino in Tukwila.

According to numerous, reliable sources (and this is apparent in the video), a fun time was had by all!
