Discover Burien’s annual ‘WinterFest’ will be held from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3rd, with free hay rides, horse and carriage rides, free photos with Santa and even free dog photos with SantaDOG!

The fun will run from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Olde and Downtown Burien area.

In addition to the usual holiday fare, there will also be store specials and treats along SW 152nd Street in Burien.

The free Santa Photos will take place at Prudential Northwest’s offices in Olde Burien, and the dog pics will be at The Mark Restaurant & Bar.

“Try your luck at winning a Santa Bag at participating businesses,” reads an email announcement. “The more you shop the more tries you get. If you open it you win everything in the bag.”

Artists United’s 14th Annual Autumn Art Fest will be held this Saturday, Nov. 12th, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at The Cove, located at 1500 SW Shorebrook Drive in Normandy Park.

There will be Art demonstrations, raffles and original art from more than 30 local artists working in oil, watercolor, photography, mixed media, jewelry, ceramics.

Admission is FREE, refreshments will be available.

The annual ‘Aloha `O Na Kupuna Music & Dance Festival’ will be held from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. this Saturday, July 16th at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Burien.

The theme this year is ‘Christmas in July,’ and doors open at 9 a.m. with continuous entertainment until 9 p.m.

Tickets are $7 each, with Seniors 65 years and older, as well as Children under the age of 10 Yrs are FREE!

A portion of Proceeds will go to the `Heal My Heart Fund`for Kealoha Cabunoc’s Catastrophic Medical Needs.

White Center Jubilee Days will celebrate its 89th year in the Dub-C this year, and this annual Seafair-Sanctioned Community Event continues to grow, with a garden tour, street fair, auto show, auction and of course the parade and more.

Burien’s annual FREE Wild Strawberry Festival is this coming weekend – what will you find at Town Square Park on Saturday and Sunday (June 18-19)?  Take a look!

The main Town Square Stage (where The B-Town Blog tent will be located – we’re Sponsors), will host some amazing acts including:

• Local talent such as Momentum Dance, New City Dance, and B-Town Belly Dancers; Highline Community Symphonic Band with dancers from Swing-amajig, and KidsSound, YouthSounds and SilverSounds NW Choral groups.
• At 11am on Saturday bring the kids to See “The Toy Boats” a fun group of musicians who play toy instruments!  Sponsored by KCLS.
• Music of all kinds including Latin groups Groupo Amoroso and Los Flacos, rock favorites by BottleRockit, and fabulous Indie rock from local teen band Castbound!

Burien’s 2011 Wild Strawberry Festival is just over a month away (June 18 & 19 at Town Square Park), and the poster is out and available for you to print, email, post to Facebook and do whatever else you can to help spread the word for this great local arts, entertainment, food, fun and green festival.

The fest will take place the weekend of June 18th and 19th at Town Square Park, and will feature lots of live music, the B-Town Bike Fair, Family & Kid Friendly Activities, a Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, a 5K & 1K Wild Strawberry Run, Father’s Day Car Show & Chili Cook Off, Carnival Days and much more!

The City of Tukwila will be hosting its 11th annual Backyard Wildlife Festival on Saturday, May 14th, featuring garden tours, arts and crafts and guest speakers including local gardener and host of KING5’s “Gardening with Ciscoe,” Ciscoe Morris.

The festival, which will be held at Tukwila Community Center (located at 12424 42nd Ave South) is FREE to attend.

This family-friendly event featured music, games, crafts and refreshments. Inside the community center, visitors could view “Day of the Dead” altars courtesy of the Highline Historical Society and take in a puppet show put on by Clay Martin. Those who chose to brave the chilly night air could enjoy spooky stories from Burien Little Theater while huddling around a warm fire in the park.

Officials from Burien Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services estimate that the crowd may have been as large as 500. Said Gina Kallman, Cultural Arts Supervisor, “I thought the event was amazing! The first big event at the new community center and Dottie Harper Park and the place was packed. So much fun watching the families have a good time!”

Burien’s annual Octoberfest is coming to Town Square Park beginning Thursday, Sept. 23rd through Sunday, Sept. 26th, and will include a beer and wine garden along with an abundance of activities for young and old.

Festival offerings will range from live rhythm and blues music to Burien’s only full carnival, a benefit walk to aid homeless women at Hospitality House (read details here), and 40-plus booths of food, arts and crafts.

The adrenaline rush and fun of the Davis Shows carnival rides gets Octoberfest underway on Thursday, Sept. 23rd, and to celebrate you can buy one armband good for unlimited rides all day and get a second armband free (for Thursday only). Armbands are just $23. The carnival’s rides and games continue through Sunday, Sept. 26th, and close each day when attendance gets too thin.

By Saturday, Sept. 25th, Octoberfest kicks into high gear with the addition of entertainment onstage, a beer and wine garden, and vendor booths. On the Octoberfest stage lineup are:

Saturday, Sept. 25:

• 2-6 p.m. – Choyce (classic rock and roll)
• 6-10 p.m. – The Just Us Band (R&B plus 1950s and 1960s rock)

Sunday, Sept. 26:

An outdoor beer and wine garden on the festival’s grounds will feature Octoberfest beers brewed by Elliott Bay Brewhouse & Pub to be savored while watching the entertainment onstage. All proceeds from the beer and wine garden, operated by Elliott Bay Brewhouse & Pub and the Mark Restaurant & Bar, will go to the non-profit Discover Burien Association, which works on the economic development and marketing of the city.

Browse the festival’s 40-plus booths for unique arts and crafts plus typical festival eatables such as roasted corn and hot dogs. Some vendors from the Burien Farmers Market will also be on hand.

On Saturday morning take an easy 2-mile stroll to help Hospitality House’s shelter for homeless women, located in Burien. Register for the ninth annual Walk for Women at 9 a.m. Sept. 25 for $25 at Southwest 152nd Street and Fifth Place Southwest at Burien Town Square. The walk starts at 10 a.m. Dogs on a leash are welcome. Afterward there will be a prize drawing for walkers who raise the most money through sponsorships. The carnival runs from 3 p.m. to close Sept. 23 and Sept. 24, 11 a.m. to close Sept. 25 and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 26. Hours for the main festival are Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“Arts A-Glow,” Burien’s Amazing Lantern Festival & Procession, is coming to Town Square Park on Saturday night, Sept. 18th from 5pm – 10pm.

This is a great, annual arts fest where homemade lanterns light up the night sky as they are walked around in a procession to music through downtown Burien.

NOTE: There is a FREE “Lantern Open House” going on tonight (Wed., Aug. 25th) from 6:15pm – 8:15pm at the Burien Library Multipurpose Room, which promises:

Join the artists who will be leading this year’s Arts-A-Glow for an evening of inspiration and illumination!

Learn how to make a lantern at home and find out about the lantern-making classes at Moshier Art Center.

The evening will include a slide show, discussion, and hands- on art making for those of you who just can’t wait!

Come explore on this magical evening! Make your own lantern and join the procession at dusk! We will have musicians and performers around every corner and tea and treats to be sampled too.
