Here’s what his Human, Dr. Yael Kantor said about his condition:

He came to me as a patient in 2003. He was just a couple months old. The vet brought him in – he had been injured either by being dropped or stood on. The result was a spinal cord injury. He was paralyzed from the mid-back down and could not go to the bathroom by himself so he was probably on his way to being euthanized.

Well, we fell in love with him. I adjusted him and got some sensation back in his tail which he ended up chewing and the vet had to dock.it. But after a slew of adjustments, acupuncture, hydrotherapy we did not get the movement back in his legs but we did get him a little wheelchair.

He is a trooper and full of spunk. He lives with two other bigger dogs and is incredible with the kids. He hops around the house and has developed a large chest and big front paws. He is just full of life and you would never know he is disabled. He is amazing and adds so much to our lives.

Last year saw over 1,600 visitors tour the spooky extravaganza and Dr. Jonna Moss assures us that this year — the 16th year — the scares will be bigger and better than ever!

A full-scale construction project takes over the sidewalk in front of Moss Chiropractic

After weeks of planning, Moss and her volunteer crew will spend Friday evening, after the last patient leaves the office, and most of Saturday morning tearing her clinic apart and turning it into the scariest place to be in Burien. The installation includes theater lighting, sound and other special affects.

After entertaining visitors young and old for just four hours as part of the Boo in Burien the Moss Chiropractic team will then reverse the process by taking the haunted house apart and setting the office back up to receive patients on Monday morning.

Quite a labor of love considering the entrance price for this amazing show is absolutely free!

Rain or shine, be sure not to miss this local tradition on Saturday, October 30. The haunted house will be open from 1 PM to 5 PM at 612 SW 152nd Street to fill all your Halloween fright needs.

This Saturday, Oct. 30th at 4pm, there will be a new entrant with an unfair advantage running in the wildly popular Wiener Dog Race in Olde Burien.

His name is Waldo, and he will be the first differently-abled Wiener Dog to compete in the race. Waldo and his custom-made wheelchair will be also be the first wiener dog ever sponsored by The B-Town Blog.

Call him Waldo the Wonder Wiener Blog Dog!

And we think he has a distinct advantage over other dogs (he’s got wheels for cryin’ out loud!) so look out all you other Wieners out there – ‘cuz this Wiener will be the Winner.

Now if you have a Wiener Dog you’d like to enter, you don’t need a sponsor, but there is a $5 entry fee. To register, download this PDF file and bring it to the event on Saturday along with your entry fee (you can turn it in to the Discover Burien Registration Booth on site).

In order to understand Waldo’s reason for being in a wheelchair, we asked his owner, Dr. Yael Kantor of Seahurst Chiropractic and Wellness Center (BTB Advertiser) to give some history on Waldo:

This Wiener Dog Race will be Waldo’s first professional race, but he’s been training by chasing kids and other pooches around Dr. Yael’s backyard. He is an eight-year old long-haired dachshund.

Here’s a bit of good news: this year entrants into the Pet Parade and Weiner Dog Races can register online at the Discover Burien website (PDFs of Parade Registration here; Dog Race here). If you can’t register online you can always register at the Discover Burien tent on the corner of 9th SW and SW 152nd in Olde Burien. Registration is from Noon – 4pm. The parade starts at 3:15 pm followed by the race at 4 pm.

Place for Pets has created 110 doggie gift bags for entrants into both the parade and the race.

There’s plenty for everyone to do at Boo in Burien this Saturday, rain or shine, but if you do one thing, make sure you come down to cheer on Waldo, the Wonder Wiener Blog Dog!

Local businesses will be handing out free candy (until its gone that is), there will be hayrides, a haunted house, pumpkin bowling, painting, scary storytelling, a dog costume parade, and everyone’s favorite – Wiener Dog Races!

All events are free, and it’ll be a full day of fun on SW 152nd.

On Halloween (Saturday, Oct. 31st), the annual “Boo In Burien” took place, where children went trick or treating from business to business, dogs (and kids) in costumes paraded, and wiener dogs raced against each other.

This year’s event was sponsored by Discover Burien, Prudential Northwest and Grocery Outlet.

The B-Town Blog was there of course, and Photographer Michael Brunk captured these photos:

Of all the Halloween events happening in Burien this Saturday, you won’t want to miss this one – the 15th annual Haunted House at BTB Advertiser Moss Chiropractic, located at 612 SW 152nd.

The family-friendly fun will run from 1pm to 5pm.

Seems like Dr. Jonna Moss (pictured, left) just loves Halloween. She has since her childhood neighbor turned his house into a haunted house, and she knew that when she grew up she would do the same for other kids.

Moss’ lodge-like Chiropractic Clinic has lots of small rooms, which makes for the perfect haunted setting. This year’s visitors will enter from a castle façade off SW 152nd to walk into a scary (but not too scary), gorey (but not too gorey) display of Halloween horrors which includes 15 staged rooms and 18 total displays of terror. Every room will be a different experience.

Visitors can expect to see zombies, pirates, witches, aliens, werewolfs, vampires and hippies (hippies? Since when were hippies considered scary?).

New to the haunted house this year will be professional lighting and professional special effects. Also for the first time ever, Moss patients will join the staff in scaring the little and big kids of Boorien.

This labor-of-love on the part of Dr. Moss and her 24 volunteers, including patients, staff and friends of staff started last Saturday when everyone met at her home to start painting and sorting the props, walls and other assorted elements. Since this is a working clinic, light decorating began Wednesday, working around the patients. On Friday (Oct. 30th), at 6:30pm, like clockwork, the truck hauling the props and walls will arrive at their door and everyone goes to work for the next four to five hours creating the rooms and displays. They’ll finalize the scary displays Halloween morning at 7am..and like magic, the castle doors will open at 1pm and remain open until 5pm. Tear down will precede a group dinner in costumes at Azteca Mexican Restaurant, compliments of Dr. Moss.

If you or the kids are too afraid to go inside, they will have candy outside for the ‘fraidy-cats.

Usually open for business on Saturdays, Moss Chiropractic will be closed for everything except scary-business on Halloween!
