As you are sampling your way through the beer tent at the Poverty Bay Blues & Brews Fest on Saturday, Sept. 10th, make it a point to stop by the Elliot Bay Brewing Co. to taste their handcrafted organic beers and to thank them for the great work that they do in the community.

Todd Carmen, Doug Hindman and Brent Norton

Elliott Bay Brewing Co. is a family-owned company of high quality neighborhood brewpubs in the Seattle area. Owners Todd Carden and Brent Norton met in 1994 while working for the Maritime Pacific Brewing Co. They forged a friendship and explored their common goal and dream of owning and operating their own brewpub. They also met Head Brewer Doug Hindman at Maritime Pacific.

Todd and Brent incorporated the Elliot Bay Brewery in November of 1996. In March 1997, they began construction of a brewpub in the historic “Junction” of West Seattle. Elliott Bay Brewhouse and Pub, the company’s second brewpub, opened in Burien in March of 2007. The company is the first brewery in Washington to gain organic certification form W.S.D.A. for the vast majority of their beer styles.

Over the past thirteen years, Elliott Bay Brewery & Pub has been a leader in philanthropic support and instrumental in creating an amazing sense of community in the neighborhoods which it serves. The company supports a progressive company culture and socially responsible business practices and serves on various advisory boards and volunteered time and expertise to many charitable events. Some of the many valuable non-profit groups and worthy causes that Elliot Bay Brewery supports include:

Burien Fire Victim Fund

Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Auction & 3-day Walk

Children’s Hospital

West Seattle Food Bank

West Seattle Hi-Yu Festival

YMCA

In an interview with the Burien Elliot Bay Brewhouse & Pub General Manager, Michael Goldsmith, when asked about the company’s belief in making a difference, stated:

“Giving back and being involved with our community has always been a big part of our culture. We do little advertising and pour that money and effort instead into charitable donations focusing primarily on local schools and kids. We depend on a kind ‘of word of mouth’ advertising and hope people know and respect us for our efforts. And more directly to your question…why give back to the community? Because from the owners, to brewers, to servers…we all live here and want to be proud of our community.”

The Rotary Club of Des Moines is pleased to partner with an organization like Elliot Bay Brewery who believes as strongly as they do about giving back to the community and truly implements the Rotary Motto “Service Above Self.”

100% of the net proceeds of this all-day event will support Rotary’s Music4Life program, which expands music to youth in our local schools.

Our friends at Burien Little Theatre are happy to announce that “BLT is 30 years old, and finally we can drink liquor!“

That’s because BLT was granted a valid liquor license, after working on obtaining it for several months.

That’s right, starting with the Bill and Peggy Hunt Playwrights Festival (which opens TONIGHT), BLT will be able to serve beer and wine before the show and at intermission.

BLT will also host a champagne toast for the two opening nights of the festival — April 8 and 22.

The BLTers add:

Come and join BLT. What fun! A glass of wine or a beer and better live theater, what a great night!

Of course BLT will continue to have its full supply of non-alcoholic beverages and other snacks. Alcohol is an addition to BLT’s regular concessions.

So next time you are at BLT catching a show have a beer or glass of wine, provided you are over 21.

The Pub will have food specials all day as well as a special Oktoberfest Menu, an outdoor beer garden and live music from 3pm – 10pm inside. The musical line-up includes:

Mellifluous Zephyrs are back this year by popular demand where they’ll be playing traditional German Polka Music on wind instuments

The Bonnie Birch Bavarian Band will play traditional style of Bavarian music which includes Bonnie playing her accordian.

Be sure to plan on a Chicken Dance or two for you and your family. If you don’t know how to do the chicken dance, here’s an online lesson:

Big, fat and loud are descriptives that got slapped around on the début album of Seattle’s rock and blues singer/songwriter Dudley Taft; pretty, soft and conservatively wired listeners need not apply.

There is no question that Taft, his band and this album have passed through the deep mojo fires of the Seattle music culture infecting a blend of blues standards like Willy Dixon’s “Back Door Man” and “Seventh Son” and Taft’s original work like the album’s title track, “Left For Dead” which encapsulates the spirit of the NW blues with lyrics like “My body hit the mattress, but my soul hit the floor”. The first tune out the gate is Taft’s “Ain’t No Game” which had me heading for my leather pants, boots and ready for a ride and by the last tune, also a Taft original, “If You’ll Come Home” I had to wonder if I wasn’t listening to the next Billy Gibbons or Joe Bonamassa.

If you are new to the name Dudley Taft, he is no upstart to say the least, he’s been rocking crowds for years with regional superstars Spike and the Impalers and it’s going to take a tornado to knock this showman off his game. So if it’s a feast of thick and beefy guitar tones or a stratospheric riff rock, blue note rocket ride this collection of NW styled blues tunes is a must have for any serious rock blues music collection.

The B-Town Blog would like to welcome Elliott Bay Brewhouse & Pub back to BTB. And boy have they got a very special reason to advertise – it’s BBQ season and they’ve got beer to go!

The calendar says it’s time for Barbecue Season. You remember this from last summer, when we’d already had a few 75-degree days by this time in June and it was sunny most of the time. Well, let’s pretend for one moment we’ll experience that weather again.

And while we’re pretending to have nice weather, remember our friends at Elliott Bay when planning your cookout. All of their year-round beers and the majority of their seasonal beers are certified organic ales. And they’re brewing all their beers right here in B-Town. They’ve got three sizes of kegs ready to pair with your burgers, brats steaks, fish, chicken or whatever you’re cooking.

Full Keg, which is actually a Half-barrel in “keg-lingo” 50 Liters which is 105 Pints sold at $148

Quarter (1/4) barrel called a Pony Keg and is 62 Pints sold for $88

Sixth (1/6) barrel keg or 40 Pints at a cost of $61

You need to give them a week’s notice, and they’ll have your keg ready for you. Call them at 206-246-4211 to place your order.

And here’s something you beer lovers need to know – Elliott Bay has Growlers (a really big bottle of beer, sold to go only) which is the size of a pitcher of beer. They’re normally $11, but on Tuesdays you can stock up for half price!

So, plan your outdoor party, pray for sunshine and order your kegs from Elliott Bay Brewhouse:
