Our friends at Burien Little Theatre want our Readers to know that they’ll be holding auditions for the comedy-drama “reasons to be pretty,” written by Neal LaBute, on Tuesday, Dec. 13 from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. with callbacks Wednesday, Dec. 14.

The characters are two men and two women in their early to mid-20s (see full list below).

“This incendiary comedy-drama involving four friends was an Off-Broadway hit that later moved to Broadway as a Tony-nominated Best Play,” reads a press release. “Greg, who adores his girlfriend Steph, is overheard admitting that she is no beauty. When Steph finds out, all hell breaks loose. Best friends Carly and Kent, who are struggling with their marriage, are there to take sides, provide support and light the match on the powder keg of their relationship. As both relationships crumble, the friends are forced to confront deceit, infidelity and betrayed trust in their journey to answer that oh-so-American question, “How much is ‘pretty’ worth?” Contains liberal but appropriate use of profanity.”

“LaBute has exchanged misanthropy for empathy, reaping unexpected dividends … some of the freshest and most illuminating American dialogue to be heard anywhere.” The New York Times

Performances will be at Burien Little Theatre from April 20 through May 13, 2012. Rehearsals begin in March.

Auditions are Tuesday, Dec. 13 from 7 to 10 p.m. Callbacks are Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 7 to 10 p.m.

Stage director Zachariah Robinson.

$100 stipend provided.

Please prepare two contrasting short contemporary monologues (serious/comedy) totaling 3 minutes maximum. Bring resume and headshot. Callbacks will consist of cold readings from the script.

Please make audition appointment: audition@burienlittletheatre.org, 206-242-5180. Auditions and callbacks will be held at Burien Little Theatre, 14501 Fourth Ave. S.W. (intersection of Fourth Ave. S.W. and S.W. 146th St.) in Burien.

Sullivan and The Seattle Repertory Theatre, and coming to BLT in late November.

“Luther Beatty is an extremely friendly 12-year-old who is really too big to be playing Tiny Tim, a role he has been performing two years too long,” reads a press release. “He could be played by a youthful-looking actor in his later teens or 20s.”

Here the synopsis of the show:

A sidesplittingly funny holiday hit since premiering at the Seattle Rep in 1992, “Inspecting Carol” is part “Noises Off,” part “Waiting for Guffman.” Almost broke, Soapbox Theatre Company is struggling to mount their annual cash cow, the holiday classic “A Christmas Carol.” An inspector from the National Endowment for the Arts is expected any minute. When a young actor is mistaken for the inspector, cast and crew cater to his every whim to try to win their government funding, The result: the most hilarious and disastrous production of “A Christmas Carol” ever. This is a very ensemble work with 12 characters ranging in age from teens to 60s.

Performances will be at Burien Little Theatre from Nov. 25 through Dec. 18, 2011. Rehearsals begin in mid-October.

Stage director will be Maggie Larrick.

$100 stipend provided.

Auditions for readings of the holiday classic ‘A Christmas Story’ will be held next Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Burien Little Theatre.

These are open auditions, which will consist of cold reading from the script. The actual production will be performed much like a radio play.

Actors are sought who can play women’s roles ranging in age from 9 to 50 and men’s roles ranging in age from 9 to 50. Some actors will read multiple roles. You don’t have to be these ages to read the roles, but we prefer actors age 11 and older. The time commitment is minimal as three to five rehearsals are planned, and there will two performances. The show is directed by Rochelle Flynn.

Here’s a Synopsis:

Humorist Jean Shepherd’s very funny memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s. The story follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case to his mother, his teacher and even the Santa Claus at Goldblatt’s Department Store. The consistent response: “You’ll shoot your eye out.” All of the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family’s temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie’s father winning a lamp shaped like a woman’s leg in a net stocking; Ralphie’s fantasy scenarios, and more.

Burien Little Theatre invites actors to audition for staged readings of the holiday comedy “A Christmas Story,” written by Philip Grecian. The readings will be performed much like a radio play.

Public reading at Burien Little Theatre: Saturdays Dec. 3 and 10 at 2 p.m., which are the second and third Saturdays of Burien Little Theatre’s holiday production of “Inspecting Carol.”

Auditions will consist of cold reading from the script on Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Make audition appointment or just show up. For appointment, contact readings@burienlittletheatre.org or call 206-242-5180. Please also bring resume and headshot if available.

Auditions will be at the Burien Community Center Annex, Room 11, located at the intersection of S.W. 146th St. and 4th Ave. S.W. in Burien. For directions, go to www.burienlittletheatre.org.

eSe Teatro: Seattle Latinos Take Stage, along with The Central Heating Lab at ACT, along with our friends at Burien Little Theatre, are presenting a very unusual staged reading of Venezuelan Playwright Gustavo Ott’s dramatic piece entitled Passport on Saturday, March 5th.

Translated by Heather L McKay, directed by Arlene Martinez-Vickers, Passport will be performed bilingually (Spanish/English) at both A Contemporary Theater tonight (Saturday, Feb. 26th at 7:30pm), and again at Burien Little Theatre on Saturday, March 5th at 2pm, followed by a panel discussion on immigration, hosted by Latinos for Community Transformation.

“Audiences do not have to be fluent in both languages to enjoy and understand,” BLT said in a statement. “They will experience an innovative staged reading where Spanish and English are expertly woven together by bilingual actors, challenging the audience to comprehend beyond language. Without need for subtitles or written translations, witnesses are plunged into the world of body language, gestures and the intense desire to understand.”

Originally written in Spanish with an English title, Passport tells the story of loss of one’s identity and the subsequent misunderstandings nascent between people who do not share the same language. Eugene finds himself detained. His search for answers becomes a desperate journey to comprehend beyond language and cultural barriers.

The cast includes:

Erwin Galan

Michael Blum

Gerald Alejandro Ford

Meg Savlov

Gustavo Ott, playwright, screenwriter, novelist and director, has received many international awards. Passport responds to eSe Teatro’s mission to present contemporary pieces that represent the Latino experience to Seattle audiences, in English and/or Spanish.

Here are the details:

WHAT: Bilingual reading of Passport.

WHEN/WHERE: Two stagings:
