Florence Smallwood, resident of Three Tree Point for over 70 years and a very well known and beloved teacher to hundreds of school students in the Highline area, passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 12th.
Florence was born in Spokane in 1917, graduated from Eastern Washington College and married Norton Smallwood in 1938.
She is survived by three children, including Pam Harper, co-author of the ‘Three Tree Point’ book, as well as 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be next Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Lake Burien Presbyterian Church, located at 15003 14th Avenue SW, Burien.

Florence and my mom Margaret Caryl became friends in the first or second grade and continued their friendship through the years. One of my favorite photos (and Mom’s) is Mom and Florence at Mom’s 90th birthday party at the Space Needle sitting and laughing together like the little girls of eighty+ years ago. I call it an “antique” little girls picture!
Mrs Smallwood was such a wonderful teacher. She had such a positive impact on my life and I am sure countless others.
