Burien’s first-ever ‘Walk-n-Talk,’ will start this Sunday, Aug. 7th, beginning at 2 p.m. at Town Square, then continue the first Sunday of every month.
Meant to inspire locals to meet up, then walk and talk while enjoying the sights of Burien, as well as local businesses or whatever else participants encounter, this is another new, innovative, artist-inspired idea.
“Put on your comfy shoes and come for a casual Walk-n-Talk with friends and neighbors,” reads a press release. “On the first Sunday of every month, meet up at Burien Town Square with friends, old and new. Enjoy conversations and a walk through town. Grab a local coffee or snack before or after your stroll.”
WHAT: Burien’s first-ever ‘Walk N Talk’ begins this Sunday, Aug. 7th.
WHEN: First Sunday of every month; meet at 2 p.m., then start walking at 2:15 p.m.
WHERE: Start at Burien Town Square; then take a 2.25 mile loop around Lake Burien and back to Town Square.

Love it. No fuss…just get together, stay fit and chat. For all of you training for the upcoming 3-day walk, this is a great way to have a bit of company (at least for a couple of miles anyhow).
What is the 3-day walk you mentioned?
The neighbors I like best are the ones I’ve never met.
I`m with wheels, count me out. Been in my place over 20 years and I`ve only met 3 of my neighbors and talked to a couple others, and that`s plenty thanks.
I just have no desire to meet them.
That’s a sad comment, “Socialite”. Some of my daily joys come from little conversations over the fence with my neighbors, or chatting on the street as they walk by and I’m out in the garden. My neighbors add immensely to my world.
“I just have no desire to meet them…” yet you call yourself “Socialite” ?
Why even bother!?
What an odd name “Socialite” for someone who doesn’t sound to “Social”.
This is a wonderful idea! Who is sponsoring it? Hope to be there.
There’s really no one “sponsoring” the Walk-n-Talk. I simply wanted to encourage people to get out and walk. Girlfriends Shelley and Rochelle and I talked about the idea and picked the first Sunday of the month, and put it out there. See you Sunday!
I am not sure I would walk down 10th, it can get super busy and there are no sidewalks. The cars tend to go down that rode pretty fast since it is a main drag. Same with 152nd. Make sure you walk on the north side of the street. No sidewalks on the south side.
Rebecca, the three day walk is a fundraiser for Breast Cancer awareness. (60 miles in three days)
And last but not least… as you are walking please be aware of just how much space our neighborhood businesses take up with their outdoor tables and chairs. In some spots there is little to no room for strollers or wheelchairs. Especially with the trees. Would love to see this city become more pedestrian friendly.
Crystal, we can take notes about problem areas along the route and I’ll get in touch with Public Works, posing those ideas to them.
Yes, it’s up to everyone to be mindful of their personal safety while walking. We may change the route over time, or alternate different neighborhood routes. That’d be an idea. People could submit their ideas for routes in other areas.
Oh and I meant to say that I really hope this takes off! What a great idea
Maybe a Seahurst Beach night
I have been meaning to walk some of those trails
I do love it though will miss this one. Rare to become friends with anyone on your blocks or in building these days it seems. Plus great for kids to know thier home areas ,but note please teach children strong stranger awarness even if they have seen them/person at the store, park or such this would help having more faces to really know around that parents o.k.
I have been looking for something like this forever
I would also love to hear about any meetup play groups for toddlers other than the library story time. I have a 17 month old that would be in her stroller, and I’m preggo with number two… but we love to go walking all of the time and would love to meet some other moms if possible (and other people too). Sounds like fun!
@kjessa – We suggest you connect with our friends at “Burien Babes & Toddlers” through http://www.meetup.com. They number about 90 members and they get together at a variety of parks and places around the area. Burien Parks also has an Indoor Playground Program called “Tot Spot” that runs at the Burien Community Center. A great place to meet other moms and a way for toddlers to socialize. It’s on a break right now, but will be starting up again on Sept. 27, every Tuesday, 10am-noon. Call (206) 988-3700 for more information.
Thankyou! I’ve heard of the tot spot, just hadn’t gotten around to trying it yet! I will put it on my calendar! Also, applied for the Burien Babes and Toddlers group! I have been searching forever for one, thanks so much!
kjessa, you could also enroll your 17 month old in the Burien Cooperative Preschool. It’s a great environment to meet other families with similar age kids, play and hangout. We missed the August walk n’ talk, but perhaps next time. It’s a great idea!
