I will say that when I used to live in Ballard I'd read the MyBallard blog everyday and there were tons of crimes happening there too. For what it's worth I feel no less safe here in Burien than I did in Ballard. I do think Burien and White Center get a really bad rap... I don't know if there's just tons of crime here or Burien gets the story and crimes go unreported elsewhere... maybe a little of both?
