I suspect, since the power lines aren't owned by the City, that the holdup on the undergrounding is out of the City's control. I mean, how do you force a regional utility to move something up on its priority list?

Interesting results in Burien. I'm a Tacoma guy, but I've worked a bit in the City and have some familiarity with the streets. I follow transportation issues and have written a quick commentary on my own blog about the TPD.

Hopefully we can do a better planning effort down here in Tacoma, but it's likely going to be almost exactly the same situation.

Yeah What the heck is going on with the 1st ave S project?!
I thought all the above-ground power lines between 160th and 136th were going to be removed....

If Burien wants to do improvements, then why not finish what is already started first--1st Avenue needs sidewalks way more than 136th.
Exactly why I voted for Jack Block.

Congrats to Jack Block! He ran a clean and positive campaign and now he is following up talk with action. As he always does. Let's look forward to strong leadership.

A Clean Burien is a Better Burien. I've been out till 1 AM picking up my yard signs but I'm sure I missed a few. If you spot one please call me at 246-7708 and I'll come pick it up. Also, thanks to all those who voted for me!

It seemed strange to me that proposition was so expensive relative to the benefits; $50 a year if you have two cars, to put sidewalks on 136th and some other side streets most people live nowhere near and likely never travel.

Well, the City Council wanted to know how the voters felt about a transportation improvement district and the voters told them. That is the glory of our democratic system!
