Snaps is doing quite well.
"
The sanctuary's most famous inmate is Snaps, a mixed breed who made headlines south of Seattle in June when he attacked two women on the command of his owner, a 15-year-old girl.
"This vicious monster of a dog, he's the sweetest thing in the world," said Markwell, who often exchanges face kisses with Snaps, one of the few dogs allowed to roam uncaged inside the large industrial building, ringed with kennels, that is the heart of the sanctuary."

I got a response:

We appreciate this opportunity to offer an update on the recent Pit Bull attack in SeaTac on 6/21/09. We can share that the owner of the dog has surrendered the dog over to King County Animal Care and Control (KCACC). The case is a possible felony open investigation by the King County Sheriff's Department and we may be required to care for the dog past its 10 day required quarantine period while the investigation continues.

KCACC always keeps public safety, the laws and animal welfare concerns foremost in our work and actions. The laws are such that when a dog causes such severe and multiple bites, it may be declared a "dangerous dog" and is subject to the local regulations regarding confinement, removal from the area, and/or possible euthanasia. At this point, we also do not know if the owners or the children of the owners spent time "training" the dog to attack or defend, so we would have to be careful about even considering the safety of placing it with another family or organization. Despite what the public may be concluding based on one photo or media coverage, the dog has caused severe injury to more than one person and may very well be capable of causing severe injuries again to other animals or the public.

If there is decision to release the dog (again, pending direction from the legal authorities involved in this case AND thorough evaluation of the dog, the law and our available options), we will be in touch with selected rescue and/or sanctuaries outside the area to discuss alternatives.

We appreciate the concern members of the public have expressed on behalf of the dog, and we can always use the help of people who are passionate about helping animals. If anyone is interested in volunteering to be a foster parent to one of our adoptable animals, please visit our web site (www.kingcounty.gov/pets).

Thank you again for contacting King County Animal Care and Control.

Well, I have sent a letter to most of the shelter personnel listed here:
http://www.kingcounty.gov/safety/AnimalServices/customerservice.aspx

I will post any response that I get. In a nutshell, I asked what the status of Snaps is & if they would allow him to be released to a reputable pit bull rescue. I also relayed my own experience with rescued pit bulls, and reminded them of M. Vick's dogs & their incredible journey from that hell hole to loved companions. So, we will see....

Is there ANY news at all on this case? There are many, many signatures from all over the world on the two petitions that I've seen. I wonder, will this dog be given a reprieve? If anyone knows anything, can you please post.

To the person above - Do you SERIOUSLY think any dog thinks getting kicked is fun? I hope not, I hope you meant "something else". No dog, including a pit bull, likes to be kicked and it's doubtful that this is the first abuse the dog was subjected to. In addition, IMHO, the reason why he got involved in the "attack" can most likely be attributed to a surge in adrenalin caused by fear from bring surrounded by a group of kicking lunatics combined with the additional excitement of the attack itself which as the story said, the person holding his chain was involved in.

Snaps looks exactly like my own pittie baby, who wouldn't hurt a fly so that combined with the injustice of this entire thing has really got me going. I wish there was more I could do for him, I really want to see this dog saved.

while i don't believe snaps is at fault, i do believe he is capable of hurting humans again. i do believe "THE PARENTS NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR LETTING THEIR CHILDREN TURN INTO CRUEL MONSTERS…"

I run a sanctuary, and I have personally rehab'd a pit that had been used in fighting and as I am disabled my pitbull is now my companion dog ...THEY CAN BE REHAB'D !!!

Snaps was made to bite, it is the fault of the teens involved in this, and THEIR PARENTS NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR LETTING THEIR CHILDREN TURN INTO CRUEL MONSTERS...

Please do not give up this fight people, Snaps deserves a loving home where he can learn that people will treat him right.

Snaps does not deserve this punishment she has been through anough in the past life she was living You should give her a new life with a person who will be responsible and knows what they are doing with a dog she shows no agression so it seems I just hate to see another pit go down due to the way people have treated them most do change and can change once taken out of a bad enviroment and put in a stable and good enviroment with love and responsiblity.
