Flowers And Candles Mark Sad Anniversary At Burien Bar

One year ago Wednesday (May 6th), Ben Laumea, a father of six, passed away from injuries he suffered after being shot in the head with an AK-47 at the then-MVP Sports Bar in Burien.

A BTB Reader emailed us, asking why flowers had been placed on the doorstep of the establishment, now called Twigg’s, so we went over and took these photos:

As you can see in the closeup photo, candles were lit in the shape of a heart on the porch, along with about eight flower bouquets…

Tracy Clark, the man accused of “gutting” Scatt, a therapy cat at White Center’s Cross Church, plead “Not Guilty” to a first degree animal cruelty charge Wednesday morning at King County Superior Court.

City Manager Mike Martin Formally Charged With DUI

According to The Seattle P-I, Burien City Manager Mike Martin was formally charged with drunk driving Wednesday (May 6th), based on his arrest on Sunday, April 19th.

As we reported then, Martin, 55, allegedly crashed his car into a ceramic planter in the 12600 block of 14th Ave South.

Apparently Martin was found outside his car, “leaning forward and swaying side to side,” according to King County Sheriff’s records. His breath allegedly smelled strongly of alcohol, his eyes were bloodshot, his speech slurred and he admitted to drinking a couple glasses of wine and two beers…

Don’t Forget To Leave Food At Your Mailbox This Saturday

The 17th annual Letter Carriers’ National Food Drive will be this Saturday, May 9th, and residents are asked to leave non-perishable food donations at their mailboxes.

Food donations stay local, with approximately 20,000 to 30,000 pounds going to the Highline Area Food Bank from Burien and over 13,000 pounds to the White Center Food Bank from the White Center/West Seattle area.

According to the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), this is the nation’s largest one-day effort to stamp out hunger…
